Hands Slipping

Unread postby livwilson » Mon Apr 02, 2012 7:10 pm

I'm a freshman in highschool, i've been vaulting since 7th grade and my pr is 7 feet. So my coach keeps telling me my hands are slipping or sliding down. (Yes, I can notice it and have watched them slide in videos. At some vaults, they slide down 18 inces) I really want to get a new pr of 8'6'' this season and my hands sliding are obviously keeping me from getting higher.

Could anyone further explain why they are slipping and possibly give me some tips to stop them from sliding?!

-Thank you. :D

Three things can cause your hand to slip. Gripping too high, not jumping up at takeoff, and planting with your step under. You probably doing at little of all three. If you could post a video of your vaults, we could figure it out for you.

Good luck.

hey

usually gripping to high for the run speed....

go to www.oneapproachrun.com and print out the "MID" chart..

set up your run with the grip to "MID" nunbers...

for an 8-6 jump you will need and average grip of approx.. 10 feet and a 6 step mark of 34 feet...

i set the run up on the track and down 100's of approach run practices on the track planting into a towel..

Thank you for your help! Do you know how I could work on my invert? My coach told me yesterday that it was time for me to start inverting. I know what it is but I don't know how to do it, if that makes sense? I'm using a 12' 125 (I weigh about 120 a little less) but gripping low on the pole probably down at the 11 foot mark because my school barely has any poles...To practice inverting though my coach has me using an 11' 110.
Thanks!

hye

you have to move your grip DOWN until you are not "sliding" the grip..

you only need a 9 foot grip to jump 7 feet.. your PB?

this is where you should start...

grip down and learn to run-plant-swing on the pole and the grip will go back up as you get more efficient and faster on the run..

the swing will come with the correct run and plant...
