NAPVA

I made reference to the mysterious NAPVA (North American Pole Vault Association for those of you not aware of all the pole vault lingo) in this post... I was mostly joking about its top secret nature there, but it reminded me that I really don't know much about it.

Since my goal in life is to know everything that is going on in the PV World. I decided to do a little research.

Here is the first website I turned up.

http://www.bulldogtrack.com/napva_main.htm

It includes a meet schedule.

2003 Schedule
January 17-18 Pole Vault Summit
April 5 Bob Mathias Fresno Relays
April 19 MT SAC Relays
May 10 Modesto Relays
May 16 Sky Athletics, Phoenix AZ
June 8 Wrightsville Beach Vault, NC
July 19 Los Gatos
August 1 NAPVA Grand Prix Finals, Old Town Clovis (Members only)

And look it even has NAPVA Standings

Looks like Dean has a little catching up to do! (That chart makes a lot more sense if you look at it on the website I copied it from)

Hmmmm I recognize most of those guys from NeoVault :P

Oh and the top-secret contact info for Bob Fraley can be found here http://www.bulldogtrack.com/coaches_main.htm

It appears he even has an email address

My next search result took me to an archived issue of The Pole Vault World According to Gus. http://www.polevault.com/vaultngus/N_Ne ... /05-80.txt

Here the age old question of what is the NAPVA has been revealed!

"The North American Pole Vault Association NAPVA

What is it?

The NAPVA is a grand prix type tour for pole vaulters. This is where
post collegiate vaulters have been provided a schedule of
competitions within the USA. This schedule provides to opportunity
for athletes to compete for tour points and in some cases "cash".
The points gained in each competition determine your ranking and
final place in the overall tour. The vaulter with the most points
wins the most "cash". This money provides the athletes with means to
help pay for living, training, and travel expenses. While they are
pursuing to be the best in their sport.

The NAPVA is able to provided these funds through yearly sponsors
and friends. These supporters donate money for the cause of helping
younger athletes achieve there dreams. In some cases the donations
are anonymous, and in a businesses donation some type of advertising
is usually exchanged.

And here is information on that top-secret pole vault publication: The Pole Vault Standard.

I don't know how old that link is, so you might want to contact Bob and find out if that is still the subscription price.

Nothing really secret about NAPVA. An email or phone call to Coach Fraley will get you all the info you ever wanted and more.

Stephanie was the Grand Prix winner in 2001 and 2002! And that was against everyone, including the guys!

Regards,

James
That's my baby girl!!

I didn't know about it, and they don't have a good website, so it felt like a secret to me :P

I saw that Steph was a winner before... that kept me from making any comments about it being a good ol boys club ;)
