JEFF HARTWIG (men's pole vault): I was running a fever all last night and this morning and I had no power at all. I just couldn't get going, I'm still running a fever and I feel bad. I've had a stomach problem since I got here. It's just disappointing.

I find it interesting that JEff always seem to have some phantom illness or contact problem at big meets...

Bad luck sucks, but usually it gives up on you sometimes. That's what you call probability.

I can appreciate some good sarcasm, but there's really no need for a personal attack on Stew. Bottom line is that he's in his late 30's and has had an incredible run in this sport. He
IS the American Record Holder and it's not like he's only jumped high a few times.

not to mention a World Indoor Silver medal from back in '99 which easily could have been a gold(controvertial volzing calls on galfione's 6m jump taking it away, then giving it back to jean).

I dont think he meant it as an attack. Personally I think with all the travel around the world ALL the time that the elite vaulters take part it, I think that their bodies are constantly changing and makes them more vounerable than us. For example, Derek Miles was sick at Reno, one because of stomach flu i think? and another, he was exhausted from it and traveling. I think jumping 19+ with what they go through is awesome
