Sponsorship

Unread postby RamVault09 » Wed Apr 02, 2003 3:13 am

Can anyone out there give me a good reason as to why Elite vaulters , or track & field athletes in general, can only be sponsored by one organization?

What's the downside to being sponsored by a number of different groups and organizations like nascar does? Logos everywhere!

When and how, did this single sponsorship rule start?

I'm not sure about off the track, but i'm talking about during competitions on uniforms, where sponsors get public exposure.

I think the idea that Mr. Fraley had at Reno was perfect. That'd be awesome to see some of the top dogs in the country wearing uniforms that paralleled those of nascar drivers! (not all padded and flame retardent of course)

I think that there might be a little bit of an increase on the number of elite athletes in the country as well. More vaulters will be able to focus alot more on jumping and training. Don't get me wrong, i'm not forgetting about getting an education...I think this might also increase the level of competition in the country. We could possibly see more like 10 - 20 vaulters jumping at consistent high heights rather then the norm of about 5 - 10.

Who's to say? This could all be just a bunch of jibba jabba. Just some things i've been thinking about. Anyone, please respond with your opinion on the matter...

I whole heartedly and completely agree! It would be good for everyone I think. Local companies could get local and National recognition. Not only does NASCAR do it, but look at any of the X sports, Mountain bikers skaters etc.. They can be sponsored by big wigs or small comanies. This is especially good for the the "emerging elite". Right now my only sponsor is my parents! Thanks Mom and Dad!

That would probably cut their revenue by half ;)

I remember thinking when I was younger that it would be cool to be sponsored by Jolt Cola - "All the sugar and twice the caffiene!"

I think the IAAF has alot to do with it. They have strict rules on the size and number of logos you can have. They even go as far as putting a piece of tape over logos that are too big. I think it due to the fact that they can control the sponsorship and get more money for their organization. I am not sure if USATF has the same rules or not.

LOL - haven't been on the board in awhile and just saw this and couldn't stop laughing

I think swtvault would have to be sponsored by Busch Light, possible Natty Light, and there could be an invitational for all light beer sponsored athletes known as "The Light-Weight Classic"

I would have to put my vote on the NCAA being Nazi's. They also have that stupid logo size regulation where it can't be over 1 inch wide by 1/2 an inch tall...

I think vaulters should be able to wear whatever they want, and get paid whatever they want. What does it hurt anyone (besides NCAA Nazis) if athletes get more money!?

I just figured 'Track & Field athletes in general' included college vaulters... Obviously my mistake.
