The streets of Clovis are jam packed with athletes competing down Pollasky as the National Pole Vaulting Championships arrive for the 19th year.

The mats are down for athletes to run down Pollasky and jump, really high.

"It's a little like flying close as I'll ever get."

Tyler Wallace from Temecula California has been pole vaulting for about 9 years, but it's his first time at the national pole vaulting championships in Clovis. He hopes it'll be a springboard to the Olympics of 2016.

"It's always a competition between us and the vaulters but its a good friendship too. We're always pushing each other to jump higher."

The event is in its 19th year, and Clovis has some devoted fans like Jay & Jot Ventress. "These guys come here to do good and test themselves. Put themselves in a very competitive situation."

"I like to watch them compete. And it's exciting because they built it up so much."

This year they have a front row seat. With 32 athletes from New Orleans to Los Angeles to Hanford and Clovis.

"We have an old town, not quite this big but I like it here."
