I think I'm going to make it down for it, but am still looking for registration details, event details, etc.

Well, that and being of "masters" age... I kind of need to make sure my body will hold up through a couple of more practice sessions!!!

;)

The website to register for the San Marcos River Vault is up and running: http://www.elitesportz.com/sm/sanmarcos.aspx

To register from the website:

Step 1) Under "Entry Fee" click "Add to Cart" and another window will open on your screen in PayPal - check and adjust the quantities if needed

Step 2) If you wish to purchase a t-shirt in advance, click on "Continue Shopping" on the PayPal screen - you will be redirected back to the River Vault website - choose a t-shirt size from the pull down menu, then click on "Add to Cart" - you'll be redirected back to PayPal

Step 3) Verify your quantities on PayPal for both the Entry Fee and T-Shirts, then click "Proceed to Checkout" - If you currently have a PayPal account, you'll be prompted to login, then pay with your credit card - if not, you can set up an account in minutes and then pay.

Step 4) On the River Vault website, first determine which division you choose to jump in, then click on the link under Step 2, and fill out the registration form. A confirmation email will be sent to you.

Divisions and Times: Instead of dividing up the groups by age, gender, and ability level, we decided to simplify things by offering 6 divisions sorted by opening heights. You register for whatever division is right at or slightly under your desired opening height. Males and females, old and young of similar ability will all jump together. The opening heights are 5'0, 7'0, 9'0, 11'0, 13'0, 15'0. Please maintain integrity when registering by not entering in a division well below your height potential. If you're a current 12'6 vaulter, you should not register in the 9'0 opening or below divisions.

10am

Pit 1 - Sub-Expert - Opening 13'0

Pit 2 - Novice - Opening 7'0

1pm

Pit 1 - Expert - Opening 15'0

Pit 2 - Sub-Intermediate - Opening 9'0

4pm

Pit 1 - Intermediate - Opening 11'0

Pit 2 - Sub-Novice - Opening 5'0

Directions to the park:
From I35, take Exit 206 (Aquarena Springs Drive) and follow Aquarena west past Bobcat Stadium. Park in the big lot immediately on your left past the stadium. The park is a little further down Aquarena on the other side of Strahan Coliseum, but there is no parking close by.

Lodging: At this late date and given the nature of San Marcos being a tourist-town with our river and Outlet Malls, lodging will be difficult to find. Therefore, we make no recommendations except that you might have better luck finding hotel rooms in Austin (25 minutes north) or San Antonio (45 minutes south).

Items to Bring: Water Bottles (water will be provided), lawn chairs or blankets, umbrellas, sunscreen, insect repellant, swimsuits and towels, canoes, tubes, YOUR POLES

Rules: No alcoholic beverages. No pets. No unsupervised children. Please refrain from using profanity. Unsafe vaulters will be cautioned to make adjustments and subject to disqualification at the discretion of the meet organizers and officials.

All vaulters and parents/guardians of vaulters will be required to sign a waiver.

Must have proof of 2006 USATF Membership - apply online at www.usatf.org/membership

Fees:
$15.00 by June 28
$30.00 after June 28
Day of meet entries accepted for $30.00
T-Shirts available for purchase for $15.00 at the meet
Pre-orders accepted via PayPal
Deadline for online registration is June 28. After this date all registrations will be LATE and charged $30. Late registrations will only be accepted if space allows.

If you have any questions about the event, email Kris at kris@lonestarpv.com

We look forward to seeing you there!

I'm sure full results will be posted, but Rice signee Jason "San Martian" Colwik easily cleared 17'0". Maston Wallace, who I believe will be a senior next year, cleared 16'6" by a foot all the way around. He had an attempt at 17' that was near 17'6" also. Maybe he could scare 18' as a senior.

I just want to say a few things about the River Vault...

1 - Kris Allison is the man for putting on such an awesome competition...
2 - All the volunteers did an amazing job of putting this event together...
3 - HOLY CRAP!!! Was it raining PR's... Seriously... PR's nearly across the board... Colwick (17'), Wallace (16'6"), Jason Calle (16') Vince Frawley (15'), Jonathon Johnson (12')... They must have put something in the water... Everyone jumped amazingly...

Great job to all the competitors, coaches, volunteers, and especially a lightning fast EMS... Although I was told he is doing much better, please remember to keep Rance in your prayers...

Jason "The San Martian" Colwick was gripping 14'8 on a 15'7 170 Maxima 4 when he made 17'0. 3'0 pushoff. To all you younguns, Maxima 4's were basically an early version of Essx poles, later edition of Fibersport poles, made by Bruce Caldwell/PortaPit in the late 1980's/early 1990's. Great poles! Earl Bell jumped on some for awhile.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who slaved the long hours to put this thing on, all the vaulters and parents who traveled to San Marcos to support us and braved the rain, and to Frisbee Dan for forfeiting his side of the park so we could jump. Bigger and better next year!

Watch Jason Colwick 17'0" Video and Interview

Unread postby oakduck » Tue Jul 04, 2006 10:33 am

I enjoyed watching and meeting Jason at the San Marcos River Vault. Chris Allison did another excellent job of running off the meet and should be very happy to be a big part of Jason's progress in the 2006 season.

Jason's interview from the meet can be heard from link below

This was my third trip to San Marcos for the River Vault and like the in past years showcased many of Texas best vaulters.

River Vault brings best in area together

The annual San Marcos River Vault, a United States Track and field sanctioned pole vault meet, took place on Sunday at Sewell Park and brought together some of the area’s finest pole vaulters for a day of competition. Wimberley graduate and current Sam Houston State pole vaulter Matt Adkisson clears 16 and a half feet. Adkisson placed 19th at the NCAA National meet in Sacramento in June with a jump of five meters (16-04.75).

The annual San Marcos River Vault, a United States Track and field sanctioned pole vault meet, took place on Sunday at Sewell Park and brought together some of the area’s finest pole vaulters for a day of competition. San Marcos High’s Jason Colwick, the UIL-5A state champion, celebrates after clearing 17 feet. The jump, which Colwick has been searching for all year and is a personal best, won the open division. Colwick is headed to Rice on a track scholarship this fall.

Huge thanks to Kris, Texas State and Kris's support crew for a great event. Rain dampened things just a little, but Kris and the gang got this one pulled off. Special thanks to Annie T's, Kris correct me on the name, for the sandwiches. Those were delicious.
compete and jump safe, have fun
