The difference between success and failure often is motivation. Jessica Barnes has motivation in spades, from the people around her and the words of others, but mostly from herself and her own experiences.

Barnes, a senior track athlete from Comfort High School, has equaled the very best of humanity by turning adversity into a catalyst for triumph.

Friday, she will compete in the high jump, and as the school record holder in the pole vault at the Region I 2-A meet in Abilene.
