Which Camp to go to ? Curran or Johnson?

Unread postby mcjumper » Fri May 23, 2008 5:36 pm

I would like to go to a Pole Vault camp this summer and not sure which camp to go to. Any feedback on Jan Johnsons camp Atascadero or UCLA camp with Anthony Curran would be appreciated

Is there a reason you cant go to both? I would go to which ever is closer because both im sure are amazing camps. I dont think you will find anyone that will talk bad about either one, and getting the ideas of two coaches is always better than just 1.

i've been to lessons with anthony curran and he's an amazing coach. he's also a friendly guy so i think i'm gonna go to his camp in june. its about $350 for 4 days i think. you get 3 meals a day of UNLIMITED UCLA food. so you know i'm going there... hahah

i saw jan johnson last week at the juco state championships although i didn't meet him. i've seen some of his videos and his camps look like fun, although its from like a camp in 1990. he has those giant scaffolds so you don't actually have to take a run just to fix your inversion.

their rated #1 and #2 in the state so either one is a good choice but the fact that i've been to curran before and the food is the deal breaker for me.

Hey for all you guys out there trying to find a vault camp to go to this summer in so cal....there is one in the Orange County are being held by a BJ Vandrovec, the head vault coach at Cal State Fullerton and the Coach of Victory Athletics. The camp is June 16-June 19 at Servite Highscool and is definately worth checking out!!!! For camp information go to www.victoryathleticspv.com

There are a lot of great camps out there, but at least check this one out. He is a great coach and is bringing a lot of great vault theories to the table from all around, so look into it.

If you have to travel a long way anyways, I wouldn't limit yourself to CA. Both Anthony and Jan put on great camps, but there are other good camps in Houston, Phoenix, Jonesboro and in the Pacific Northwest, among others. You could also line up private instruction at several places, including Tri-Valley Athletics in Stockton.

That's just off the top of my head. I hope I didn't offend anyone by leaving them out.

Did you go to this camp?
How does it differ from the UCLA camp?
