I am adding this poll to see who starts jumping when. At Clemson in the past we haven't touched a pole till the end of November which drives me crazy!!!

we actually don't touch a pole until about 4-5 weeks into practice, but we've usually certainly been jumping by the time october rolls around

I'm really interested in this question  !
Could everyone list the following information

Month - Approach - Times per week

Example:
September - 6-8 Steps - 2 times per week
October - 10 Steps - 2 times per week
etc....

Well our new coach dosen't believe in short run, only full runs full vaults all the time (twice a week). Could be why we start so late. I dunno, I'm trying to get him to compromise with us.

Vaulting should start once general fitness is achieved. Not full run or even vaulting, but @ least drills and pole runs. Weaknesses identified from the previous year should be the focus of the first few months. i.e rhythm, running tech, pole carry, plant mechanics, penultimate, etc, etc. From there progressing to short to medium runs by late october (5-7 lefts).

We spend September focusing on building strength, technique, and teaching how to develop speed.
First drill - Four lane "ladder" drills! 5 each.
20-20's - eight to ten
two step pole climbs
two step swing drills
put the bungee at hand height and do two step vaults
do this twice a week along with weight training and gymnastics...
