From Track & Field News:

T&FN has never placed any competing-for-school restriction on CRs; just whether or not they're in-season.

As an example, the indoor CR in the 800 as we recognize it is by Paul Ereng, set at the World Indoor Champs in Budapest. (Although, irony of ironies, it should be noted he ran in a Virginia jersey! His Kenyan uniform didn't arrive)

Since it is now in-season, where Barber vaulted is irrelevant. It was a real meet (we don't place the same kind of minimumum number of events criterion that some governing bodies do), conducted by a real official. And unlike the last indoor vault mark from Texas we didnt' ratify (Freier last spring), it wasn't conducted on a synthetic floor with the box dug in, making the depth questionable.

As to Volzing, that's a judgment call by the official and we'll not go against that (unlike a missed false start where there's documented physical evidence of going before the gun).

Not that it matters, because apparently Track & Field news keeps the records, but I found this on USTFCCCA.org while looking at the Bowerman Watch List...

"The lone non-Semifinalist to join the list was Shawn Barber of Akron. Barber is also the only man on the list to have competed in 2014-15. The Zip pole vaulter, competing unattached at the Texas Expo Vault, cleared 19-3 (5.87m) for the best all-time indoor mark by a collegian. However, the USTFCCCA does not consider the clearance a collegiate record since he was unattached and the mark was not achieved in a full track & field meet."
"spandex they're a privlage not a right!"

Interestingly, Barber also holds the all-time HS record as recognized by T&F News but not the NFHS. The NFHS only recognizes in-season records set while competing for your school.

Hopefully we see some more big jumps from him throughout the season :)
