Looking at the Air Force web site they have 8 guys over 16' this year indoors. With 5 of them having a lifetime pr of 17' or better. Thats is incredible at an Academy to me, not an easy place to go to school. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/afa ... _stats.pdf

This is going to be a hot one ladies and gents... my 2 cents:

Jack (Dont F) Whitt (Dis) - I've heard that when the big yellow pole comes out of the bag the building goes electric and babies cry for their mothers.

Andrew "All I Do Is" Ir-WIN WIN WIN - hit or miss... mostly hit... not much miss... he could pop a huge one and send the home town crowd into a old fashioned country boy frenzy.

Michael Woepse-Daisy-I-Just-Went-Around 5.70 - the word on the street is he went on up and looked at 5.70 in ABQ a few weeks back three times and was all the way around it... lord knows the intensity is there. Best fist pumps in the competition bar none.

Shawn-acey of basey Barber - I think we're all excited to see him up against the big dogs of the NCAA for the first time. Clearly has the big meet poise considering his nose-to-nose performance with the junior world boys last summer. Can the canadian taste the sweet maple syrup of victory?

Jake "You Sunk My" Blankenship - tough out there as a frosh, but he's showed consistency over 18'. The crowd probably hasn't forgotten about him putting their homeboy against the ropes at conference, and he might get a tip of the cowboy hat a few times for it. I predict some SEC love.

Derek "ain't no HINCH in this giddy-up" - Had a good showing last year outdoors, and knows how to compete. If it's 100 degrees with 0% humidity in the Randall Tyson Center tonight, I'll give him the nod.

Victor W - Not much fun to be had with this name, or this competitor. This dude has thrown down 5.50's year after year, and methinks is finally ready to go on a mission for a top 3 performance. B-Y-U-Better believe it.

In any case, this is gonna be fun to watch.

I'm new to the world of pole vault power, but I must say, I like what I see already.
PVstorm, great rundown of the meet, however I think you may have left out some key competitors from your list.
First, watch out for the boys from Texas, like Logan Cunningham. They've been doing some great overspeed training in those big ol' ripper Texas tailwinds. Could pay off on that fast board runway in Arkansas. Also, you can't count out the "team effect" of having multiple athletes from the same school. That definitely plays into Akron and Air Force hands. Could make for an interesting night. I think a safe bet is 12 guys over 18'.

Best field in years. Congrats to the coaches that go em there, but even more interesting would be to take a look at add'l stats going in:

H.S/Club Coach that helped develop
Region of the country they came from
Progression over past 4 years
