Mississippi St. cuts indoor track in order to add cross country! How lame is that. :dazed: Man, Trey I am sorry. Watching you PR at indoor SECs was the highlight of the meet for me.

Were they not able to keep indoor because it would have thrown off the gender ratios....?

Yes. They cut XC in 1995 because of Title IX, and that is the same reason they had to drop indoor when they added XC back.

They will still be able to compete at indoor meets - just not the SEC or NCAA meets.

Personally, I would welcome this move. Having to get ready for an indoor season that arrives way to early in the year and then trying to keep it up until mid-June is very very difficult.

my 2 cents,

BUT..........its tough to recruit against schools that recognize that there is an indoor season. Not to mention that the womens program at these same institutions get to compete (FAIR.....I think not). As an athlete I would never have chosen to go to a school that did not have an indoor season (and the women did). It is tough to keep an athlete ready to compete for that long but its been done for years with great success, some even continue on into the USATF season with success (not many, but........). I will never condone cutting mens progams to look better on paper!! Equal opportunity, cut the mens AND womens indoor programs for buget reasons and I can see the rational. Cut to make the #'s work.................just goes to show how BAD title IX has been, and will continue to be to our sport. The solution is to figure out how the heck to deal with football and their #'s. Track, wrestling, swimming, gymnastics etc are paying the price for the football team. Drop football and see what happens to those same #'s. HAVE FUN WITH THAT ONE!!

So, does that mean the men's team can have indoor eligibility if they transfer to another school after competing 4 yrs?

WELL................ yea you would have 1 yr of indoor left. That is if you dont redshirt (get injured) one yr in your first 4 at the original U. Basically you have 5yrs to do your 4 of eligibility. Not to mention you could not transfer in conference (in most conf) because you have to sit a yr if you transfer in conf.

Its just not a good situation.

Yeah I learned the transferring in conference thing the HARD way :crying:

And they start counting when you start school (well at least full-time at a 4-year school)... so if you go to school and aren't even on a team... you still lose eligibilty :(
