It's official. Andrea Sabbatine is now larger than life.

The former Scott County track and field standout is featured on a highway-size billboard on Lexington Road in Georgetown, courtesy of the University of Louisville.

Sabbatine, a three-time Kentucky state pole vault champion, is a freshman on Louisville's track and field team.

Billboards recognizing new U of L athletes have been put up in 12-15 locations across Kentucky, depending on where the students hail from, said Kyle Moats, of Louisville's marketing office.

The billboards will probably be posted for 1 1/2 to 2 months, Moats said.

"We're proud to have our kids from the commonwealth of Kentucky, and we just wanted to salute them," he said. "And it kind of gives a little thanks to those hometowns to let them know that we appreciate what they do."

Sabbatine said the billboard came as a "big surprise" to her.

"My boyfriend saw it, and he said, 'Hey, there is this giant picture of you on this billboard,'" she said. "I thought he was joking."

Sabbatine has since been in town to view the billboard and said, "I've never seen me that big before."

She's also continued to receive comments on the picture.

"I've had bunches of calls from my friends and people's moms," she said with a laugh.

Sabbatine said the billboard is a nice gesture by the school to make her feel welcome.

The billboard reads, "The Uni_ver_sity of Louisville is proud to have Andrea Sabbatine as a member of the Cardinal Athletics family."

Jake Jacoby, Sabbatine's jumps coach at U of L, said the marketing department's investment in the billboards seems to be a hit.

"They're a pretty penny," he said. "They went and really showed some appreciation there and are really generating a lot of interest."
