Since I had so much fun telling Coach Compton last year " teach that girl to turn" when his freshman went over 13' on her back I must make a public apology because he must have taught her something, since she went 13'8 at the first meet of the year!

FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas pole vaulter Katie Stripling's personal best clearance of 13 feet, 8 1/4 inches at the Arkansas Invitational Friday night was enough to earn her Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors, conference officials announced Tuesday.
Stripling's mark was enough to earn her a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which are March 14-15 at the Randall Tyson Track Center. She also bettered her indoor personal best by more than a foot.
Her mark and improvement since high school and her freshman campaign reflect the product produced by field assistant coach Bryan Compton, head coach Lance Harter said. Compton has a crop of three athletes who have cleared the 13-foot mark while two more, including one freshman, are close behind.
"This is another tribute to Brian Compton," Harter said. "When they have these pole vault summits and all the gurus of pole vaulting get together, for some reason Brian always gets overlooked. But as far as consistency goes in creating All-American athletes year in and year out, Brian is at the top of the class."
The award is Stripling's second athlete of the week honor. She earned her first SEC Field Athlete of the Week honor last outdoor season after she eclipsed the 13-foot mark to win the Penn Relays.
Compton gets even more credit for Stripling's success considering she came to Arkansas from Jonesboro with just one year of vaulting experience, Harter said. Before her senior season, she competed in the high jump, where she set the school record as a freshman.
She also has the highest mark in the country so far.
