Hey Guys,

Myself and Brian M. are contemplating starting a small business this summer to help fund our post-collegiate vaulting, and we are testing out the PVP world for interest/demand for our product.

We would be mass producing pole socks. For those of you that do not know what pole socks are, pole socks are long (as long as a pole) socks that slide over poles to protect them from wear and tear inside of pole bags and tubes. Brian and Adam Sarafian have used the socks for years, and I can honestly say, it keeps poles looking and feeling brand new for years.

Here is the question... if we were to sell 15'+ socks for $20 per sock and smaller socks for $18 per sock, would anyone be interested? What quantities per order would we be looking at?

From experience, flannel-like fabrics seem to hold up the best over time, so that is the material that would likely be used.

Any takers? Anyone interested? It would be for a vaulting cause!

for 20 dollars i would probably buy one, how long do they last?

I wish I had had some for my poles when I first got them. I have some gorgeous custom wrap jobs that are pretty banged up after a few years of sliding in and out of tubes.

that sounds cool! we got some of those solid black carbon poles (before Gill limited that wrapping to Elite vaulters) and we've been trying to keep them as pretty as possible, and those socks seem like the'd do great!

They will last for a couple of years, possibly more with good care. Treat them like a nice T-shirt and they will last a while. Sliding them across the track, spiking or using them as wiping devices wouldn't be recommended!

are you talking about the carbon fx gill pole? the silver ones because black would be awesome looking

are you talking about the carbon fx gill pole? the silver ones because black would be awesome looking

we have a couple solid siver ones too, but yeah it's a solid black carbon FX from Gill.

I love the idea, but $20 a pop is a little steep. Well, a lot steep. We pack about 3-4 tubes with 8-12 poles per tube and that could be expensive. Some of our poles do look a little poverty stricken from the tube abuse, so maybe if you come down on your price quite a bit for bulk sales my ears will perk up.

There is a very cheap solution to this problem that is readily available. You can buy fabric filter sleeve material at Home Depot and other such places. It is intended to be stretched over the outside of the black corrugated drain pipe with holes in it that is similar to the solid version we frequently use for carrying and protecting poles. It comes in 100' rolls and costs less than $20 per roll if I remember correctly. You just cut it to length, close one end with a plastic zip tie, turn it inside out, and, voila, you have a pole sock. The material is very slinky and slides on and off easily.

But a pole sock looks cooler and you get to support a pole vaulter!
