Is it legal for an official to make you finish the vault even if it is raining? We had our conference meet last night, and it rained the entire time. They wouldnt cancel the vault and postpone it to another day, they made us jump. One kid slipped off his pole and came within inches of hitting head on the box.

It was raining for everybody.....the competition was equal. Rain doesn't make the vault that much more dangerous if you are doing it correctly.

Some meets will wait for the rain to let up if it is a high level vault competition, but as long as there is no lightning, VAULT ON!!!

did you or the other athletes keep your poles dry or did you just leave them out in the rain.


Once your done vaulting was a towel wrapped around your grip and a bag put over it and then put under a tarp.


Live in a state like michigan and you learn quick. Dry hands and a dry grip it doesn't matter if it is raining.


The true vaulter and coach come out in adverse weather.

wind is the worst. i can vault in the rain as much as i want, but once the headwind kicks in, it kills me.

I live in in state like Michigan. Its called Indiana. It rains every other day. A true vaulter doesnt risk winning the state championship just to jump in rain.

hey man i had the same conditions 2day at my meet it just comes down to being smart and knowing what ur doing not just the normal having the guts to try it... its gonna be raining durring sectionals so just make sure u can get out of the sectional and hopefully well be at the state meet with great conditions

First, the officials did not make you compete. You can withdraw at anytime if you feel it is unsafe for you. Good advice about keeping your hands and grip dry. We just finished the women (yesterday) and the Deca. men today for the Big Ten Champs and it was raining both days. Only one athlete slipped off the pole and with that many vaulters at any meet, rain or not, you would probably get at least one slip.

You just got to suck it up.....if you are smart about it, vaulting in the rain is just as safe as normal vaulting.....if your hand grip is dry, all you have to worry about is not mentally being able to do it.

we always postpone it for a bit if it's raining, and sometimes stop it depending on how bad it is...my school brings rosin to meets so we can put it on our grip tape if it gets wet

rosin works great...I have been preaching it to my teammates for years.

is rosin the stuff that makes yer hands and grip area all black n cool n stuff? where can you buy that?
