Will Bentley, father of Alex Bentley - Texas 2005 5A State Champion with a jump of 16'9", has authorized me to announce that Alex has signed with the University of Houston Cougars where he will be coached by Kyle Tellez.
I've had the opportunity to watch Alex practice and compete and I'm glad he's staying in town. He is an outstanding person and athlete with a great local and family support system, led by his father, a former fighter pilot. Congratulations!!

Absolutely true about Kyle. I also want to give credit where credit is due in that Alex has also worked extensively with David Butler at Rice University. That's what I mean when I say he's got a great support group. His dad, Will, goes to whatever lengths necessary to assure the people and equipment resources needed. They are a very good father and son team and fun to watch. Congrats again!!

Don't know the details but I'm quite sure he did since he will immediately rank near the top of their conference.
I talked to his dad at breakfast one day when they were pretty sure that was their choice, and then he told me at practice one day that it was done and signed. I'm really excited for him.
