Jack blew away the Nike Outdoor Nationals record of 17.03 with a 17.08 1/4 jump. The wind was at times a head, cross, and tailwind. Not the best conditions for vaulting. Next week last chance at the record.

The wind didn't seem to bother the short kid from Oklahoma. He PR'ed by 2 inches. Short kids must have less wind resistance. Congradulations again, Jack!

For the Dial Model or the Drive Model (whatever you and Tim call Jack's technique), his tuck is ALMOST perfect. He's tucked about as tight as he can be, with his lead knee and shin tucked under his top hand. The only critique I can make is that perhaps his hips could be a bit higher in this rocked-back position. Just a bit.
Start raising the hips a bit earlier, to pass THRU this tucked position a bit faster ... in a little more of a "continuous chain" motion ... NOT AS MUCH PAUSE in the tuck. I think this is the key for Dial Model vaulters to advance from 18-0 to 19-0+. But don't listen to me ... I'd trust Tim's advice much more than my own about this!

And where do you get the momentum to raise the hips up a bit? You COULD get it from just a bit more muscle power ... but it might be easier to get it from the bottom half of the vault ... from the swing.
You already have one of the two best coaches in the world to teach Jack the Dial Model. The other one bears the name of the model, and Jack will be getting great coaching from him soon too.
Congratulations on a fantastic Sr. HS year. Not a single NH, and not a single loss! And lots of PRs and records broken in the process. Fantastic!

Kirk

I have been working with "the short kid from Oklahoma" for the last couple of years. He has done a great job this year. I couldn't be more proud of Jonathan. He has lived in Jack's shadow all year, but has managed to turn in a great high school season in his own right.

Who better to coach a short kid from Oklahoma than another short kid from Oklahoma. By the way, Jonathans new goal is to beat your school record at OU. Thanks Tim for all your help.
