Casey Carrigan set the WA state record of 17-4.75 in 1969. This record still stands. Are there any other states with a longer standing pole vault record?

Because some states have different standards for how records can be set, I will clarify a bit. Washington allows records to be set until August 31st of the senior year. Carrigan jumped 17-4.75 at Golden West that summer.

He was amazing

That set a National High School Record that stood for a long time. He made it to the Olympics fall of his senior year in high school. He is also said to have jumped his age from age 8 to 17, but I don't know if he did the lower heights/ages at meets.

I have another record for you.

Ya that shotput record will NEVER be broken EVER. That is equivilent to someone vaulting 20' in highschool. The most insane record ever, anywhere period.

It's a little harder to compare because they throw a heavier shot once they get out of high school. I am sure Adam Nelson could throw 80+ feet with a HS shot if he trained at it.

I think Carters best was 69' something with the 16lb shot. Still very impressive.

More than likely adam nelson could, course he isnt 17 or 18 anymore. I think even if he did train with the lighter shot it would still be very difficult for him to throw that far. That is just a huge mark.

It's so far out there, it's like 8 feet better than the #2.

Carter's best with the 16# was like 65' in high school.

He won a couple of NCAA titles and the silver at the 84 Olympics. I think his PR was around 71-72'.

Played for the 49ers for many years after that.

I met that guy, michale carter, last summer when I went to a meet in canada. he was a coach and his daughter was on the team. Damn, that dude eats 5 meals at a time and he is about the size of 5 people. He was pretty much a chaperone, i dont think anyone wanted to mess with him.
