show boating

does anybody know if it is against the UIL rules to show boat if you won a meet? just wondering because i was thinking if i got first at regionals i was going to jump on my pole and pretend to ride it, but in football if you did that you would be penalized just wondering?

to be safe I wouldn't. Don't get me wrong, you can celebrate if you do well, but don't be cocky. Unless you jump like 17ft then you can do pretty much whatever you want...

lol yeah but if i jumped 17 ft as a sophomore i would be respected by everybody so i probably wont do it but it would be cool

I would say don't do something like that... it just makes you look like an idiot, as well as making your school not look classy.
If you are going to celebrate, do it with respect to others and not go overboard. The only reason pro's celebrate a lot is because they clear
18-8 on a regular basis!!

yeah ok now that i think about it it would be dumb to do with only getting 13'-14' but someday when i clear 18' and up i will be able to show off lol

I think the NFHS (the National governing body for high school track and field) has rules against that kind of thing.

The best celebrations are spontaneous!
If you have to plan or choreograph your celebration, don't bother.
As for the rule, I don't think anyone's going to mind if you're getting psyched about jumping a PR or something like that.

It will make you look cocky. Even if you're not. Its in my personality to do something stupid like that, but you gotta hold back. The only thing ive seen happen was a young african american man who had clearly never pole vaulted before and didnt take it to seriously, well he cleared 6'6 on his third attempt and everyone was cheering. He was jumping up and down and did a back flip on the matt, and the official DQ'ed him. It was a relay meet, so a team didnt have another vaulter and threw him in there. That to me isnt show boating, because he isnt taking it too seriously and didnt win anything by doing it.

wow that is really strict, but that is almost like landing on your back and instead of just standing up and walking off you roll into a back handspring
