Re: Photos of free take offs - Got any?
Thanks guys. And great photos of Ashton, I've always been a big fan of his take off. One of the few things that impress me more than a pole vaulter with a pre-jump is a decathlete with a pre-jump! Fantastic work! And Altius, you're quite right about translating it into competition. It's much h...

Re: Pole Drop, When is Early too Early?
Yeah I am not 100% sure what you mean about coming forward but I think it is because you carry your right hand behind you when you run, to help you hold the pole up. But if you carry it in front of you and use the left hand as a lever you can keep your right hand right next to your hip. Altius: Why...

Re: Photos of free take offs - Got any?
Alright, I'll bite. Got an incredible pre-jump here. 3post.jpg 4post.jpg This is Joel Pocklington (coached by Mark Stewart). Not sure what pole Joel is using but the run is from 8 steps (4 lefts) and the bungie was at around 4.40m I think. He was about 1-1.5 feet off the ground before the pole made ...

Re: Off-Season Cross-Training?
Not sure exactly what your schedule is but for XC and the pole vault here's a brief overview about my thoughts: XC is used a lot among coaches who are influenced by or are from the former Eastern Bloc countries. It's role is in the early season preparation, really as kind of a "kick start"...

Re: Isinbayeva not what she used to be
Anyway, sorry to diverge from the original conversation. With regards to Isi, I think that next year will tell us how great she really is. She has already made her mark on the sport but now comes true adversity for her. I'm sure she's certainly not having fun right now. But she needs this infinitely...

Re: Isinbayeva not what she used to be
I just wanted to make a comment that can be applied to everybody and not really directed at any athlete in particular (like Lavillinie) IMO, here's the catch 22 with taking off out: Taking off "on the spot" is the bare minimum of what you have to try and achieve. And to me "on the spo...

Was thinking the same thing.

Dang, too bad for Suhr.
She didn't look like she was in her best form all night.

Re: WC Women Finals - Middle of the night party here!
Nice clearance for Silva! Cubans seem to have found themselves a nice little system here. I may be reading into it a bit but Borges and Silva look like they're a bit shorter than average - find a long jumper who can pick up gymnastics. Both Borges and Silva look like they have some natural gymnastic...

Re: WC Women Finals - Middle of the night party here!
Also very interesting to note, Silva from Cuba has the same long jump style run as Borges!
They must be recruiting pole vaulters from the long jump stock over there!
