High Jump

So I went to my daughter's gymnastics event today and came away thinking about the high jump... Following a couple of back hand-springs, some of these athletes pop off the ground pretty high with a two foot take off. I realize that the floor is spring-loaded, but I'll bet even off a track surface, s...

High School Rule Question

Just a quick question with hopefully a simple answer... Is it legal for a coach to perform what I've always called a "Push Plant" with his vaulter during the pre-competition warm-ups? I am not describing a "Tap" by pushing the vaulter through on a full run. This (the "Push P...

After a near exhaustive search of my parent's house, I was unable to locate the video of Gautaullin's attempts at 6.08 during the 1990 Goodwill games. Looks like the search continues for other recordings of 20 foot (or very close) attemps. If I ever find it, I'll try and post it. Until then, sorry f...

I guess I'm assuming that I'd be able to get some of the "single day" tickets that will become available on May 30th according to the ticket information. Do you think the "limited number" of tickets that become available at that time means there's no realistic chance of getting t...

I guess what I'm asking is which pit is scheduled: The inner most, or outer? I'm sure running direction will be a "game time" decision depending on wind, but if they plan to use the inside pit, then you couldn't go wrong with section "N" no matter which direction they were runnin...

Olympic Trials: Best Seating Section?

I'm looking into going to the Olympic Trials in Eugene Oregon this summer. Does anybody know which runway they are using? Which seating section will be best for viewing according the downloadable map linked from the bottom of this web page: http://www.eugene08.com/spectators.cfm?pageTitle=Ticket_Inf...

Well, I was off on the height by a smidge, but correct about WR attempts. If I find the video, I may try and post it anyway since it is so close to 20 feet and I do remember that first attempt being pretty close.

I am nearly 100% certain that Rodion Gataullin made 3 attempts for a world record after winning the 1990 Goodwill games in Seattle with a height of 5.92 I believe the WR attempts were at 6.12, but it's been so long, I can't remember exactly. I was in the stands with my video camera running and have ...

UW Spring vault sessions at Dempsey?

I've heard that there are some more indoor vaulting opportunities at Dempsey this Spring. True or False? Is there a schedule for all to see?

Thanks.

Those old aluminum crossbars make the best bar "putter uppers". Just cut off a two foot section with a hacksaw and bend about a 30 degree angle into it. Then tape the bent two foot section to the end of the longer section you cut from (or a new one) to form a "Y" and you've got t...
