Re: Scholarships
Wow! I didn't expect this much response. I want to thank everyone for their input. I have another question. If he went to Texas for a year and didn't like it, could he transfer to OU without losing any eligibility? or vise versa?

Re: Scholarships
My other concern is his ability to compete. At the DII level he would be eaning points for his team right away. At OU he wont even get to go to some of the bigger meets unless he is jumping near 17'. That may take a couple of years. Going from a big dog in high school to a small fry in college is a ...

Re: Scholarships
I agree with you Jeremy. If you see or talk to Jonathan this summer, tell him your concerns. He looks up to you. BTW he jumped 15'10" on your pole.

Re: Scholarships
Jonathan is in a tough spot right now. His mom wants him to live at home and commute to OU and walk on. I want him to take a offer of tuition, books and fees at a DII school in Texas. The DII school said his scholarship would become a full ride when he jumps 16'6". Thats only 8" away. OU m...

No, it wasn't a joke. He's just learning how to pole vault and is doing whatever he can to get over the bar. I was just wondering if Huffman jumped 19'+ like this, why aren't more vaulters imitating his technique?

Scholarships
Help me understand. Why is it, that some kids can get scholarships by jumping 13'6", while other kids jumping 15'10" may end up walking on?

Huffman Roll
The other day I saw the son of a famous pole vaulter do what I can only describe as the Huffman roll in a meet. His dad was not impressed. It got me wondering if any other vaulters besides Scott Huffman, have had any sucess with this unusual technique?

Re: Oklahoma's Top Men High School 2009
I was amazed at our regional when we put the bar up at 15'6", we still had 3 vaulters! And Jack wasn't in our region!

Re: Video of Jack Whitt's recent jumps
We compete with Jack almost every week. Yeah, we dont expect to win but Jack is a great kid. He tries to help every other kid there do their best by giving advise to anyone who asks him or in our case loning us a pole when Jonathan blows out his biggest pole. Jack knows more about vaulting than most...

Re: Another pole transition question
Thanks for your reply Kevin. I agree, Jonathan will progress thru half a dozen poles before he graduates if we can find them. Unfortunately, I can only afford to buy 1 or 2 more and the pole the school ordered will be too small when it arrives so that was also a waste of money.

Re: Another pole transition question
Thanks for the advise. One thing I've learned over the years is having the right pole on the right day means everything. Problem is Jonathon keeps outgrowing every pole I buy him.
