49-6 is out for that grip. I would move him in so he hits 47-0/47-3 on his mid.

His plant also seems late over the last 3 steps. We want the top hand over the head on the penultimate step.

Re: Coach looking for some feedback

Pretty good looking vaulter there. Nice job coach! What is his 6 step mid with that 14-1 grip? He does get a bit long over his last 3 steps which for me is related to the timing of his plant. I would work on speeding up the planting motion which should help his turnover before takeoff. You'll probab...

Re: Lavillenie vs Bubka

An interesting article about basic facts (speed, lever, stifness...) and comparaison betwen RL, SB and many others. http://vazel.blog.lemonde.fr/2014/02/17/comment-lavillenie-a-depasse-les-poids-lourds-de-la-perche/ (no time to traduce it at the moment... Re: howtopolevault.com

From what I see his main point is to have a "pre-jump". He even quotes the article Alan L wrote. http://howtopolevault.com/ The sad irony is that, late in the year 2011, I came across an article on the Internet titled “THE PRE-JUMP” by Alan Launder of Australia. Launder's article refers to...

Re: USATF Indoors - Are the fields too big?

Why not make the standard 4.00m for women and 5.20m for men and then take the top X from each gender. It doesn't seem like it should be that hard.

Re: Catching up to the pole uncoling

I would move grip before pole based on that one video. Have him grip up on that same pole and see what happens. It may become too soft or it may slow down a bit more for him and work better.

Re: Catching up to the pole uncoling

He's doing a lot of things well! Nice job.

I think he could handle more grip as he is moving the pole well. That would slow things down a bit for him.

Re: Lavillenie vs Bubka

To start off I completely disagree that Renaud is doing something different this year vs the past. We should keep in mind that Renaud switched coaches at the end of 2012. You would have to assume he did that for a change in philosophy. http://polevaultpower.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=24905 ...

Re: 20/20 drill.

This past summer Alan ran about 40 HS age kids through this drill at a camp I hosted in MN. I would say yes, do it for everyone. Most kids could only get 15-17 steps in when running properly.
