The 150 pund pole should probably be your next move. My suggetion is to kep him/her moving up 5 pound weights on the same length poles untill they are "blowing through" a pole 20 to 25 pounds over their weight. At that point its time to think about a longer pole.

if you were struggling to get in on just one day don't worry about it.... we all have bad days.... as for your standards i suggest you push them all the way back (32") and train with them there on your small pole.... and when your blowing through the bar then move up to your bigger pole.... 15" is v...

i agree with allot of you for the most part... taps should be illegal in competition and even in warmups for them... they also can produce bad habbits when a coach is always pushing you into the pit, you just won't learn how to do it on your own. but as a coach safety is number one and sometimes you...

Def as rainbow put it.... but if your still struggling even at that grip or slighty lower, try asking your coach to stand in on a jump or two to build your confidence. remember your moving up poles because you neeed to with your currentform.... don't change anything in your jump, and congrats moving...

I agree with achtungpv.... if your not crushing it the pole won't be grinding hard enough, and in that case just two or three layers of tape does the job... you have to replace it as it wears out but does the job, and your school should give you pleanty of tape.

My coach has two sons, a 3 year old and a 5 year old... both have their own poles and are learning how to jump. granted one pole is a broken mstick and the other a 4' piece of broken bar, but we put plugs in them and the kids have a blast... the youngest actually will leave the ground on his own now...

1. If you cannot penetrate into the pit (even once) in the warm ups or competition you are disqualified. I know it is draconian, but will encourage people to use appropriate grips and poles (the majority of injuries) 2. I am in favor of the landing zone (high school and college only). Miss once - w...

Being vaulters ourselves it is easy to say it was an accident. And I agree with you. But what is going to be the reaction of the public... what rules will they impose next? shoulder pads? neck braces? the officials that create these rules are often trying to appease an upset public. We all know the ...

As a coach and an athlete I feel that the concept of "spoting" is more dangerous to an athlete. Let me explain this one... I do agree that when an athlete is just begining standing next to the pits to essentially catch them or knock them into the pit is a good idea, but as athletes move to higher he...
