I built one 6 years ago - but I don't think you can do it for $100. You need 4 sensors- 2 transmitters and 2 recievers -these are about $70 each to get something that has a fast response time. A timer is about $40 and you have to build a solid state logic circuit that tells the timer to turn on or t...

I routinely travel to Rogersville, TN for company business, I knew the place was a little off the beaten path but that story is ridiculous. Wait till I jab the guys down there about the quality of inmates they have.

First you have to find a length of pole that is rated at your weight that you can safely jump on. For example an 11'- 120 lb pole. As you get better you will eventually have to keep moving your standards deeper or you will hit the bar on the way up. Once you get all the way back on the standards you...

Picking up on Lonestar's point.-- A few years ago in our state tournament series,we showed up with our poles that I had just retaped because I knew all the officials cared about was the condition and placement of the tape. 30 minutes before the meet it starts raining like hell, and the temperature d...

With every new set of kids I go thru the same issues. I experimented with different techniques to solve these problems with mixed results. The "Under" issue- I put a tape box on the track and keep moving the guys run back until he can't possibly takeoff under. Keep doing it until he gets use to the ...

I believe at that time they were still using wooden poles-- which when they break they make a spear that a Zulu would love. I know that some people were killed during this era by being impaled on the pole.

Just remember that if you weigh 200 lbs you will be putting 850 to 1000 lbs. of load on the center of that bar --depending on how tall you are and how fast you swing. You might want to hang some serious weight on it before you try something really wild.

I have a guy who weighs 150 lbs( 668 Newtons), runs at about 8m/sec with a pole and uses a 14 ft (4.3 m) pole(13'6") grip height.
Use it if you want

The Yellow CAT break sort of sounds like a compression side failure(implosion) as described by Decamouse. The big breaks- explosions that sound like a gun are most assuredly tension side failures.

I think Andy Brown is redshirting this year-- I kind of overheard it at one of the meets. I know he has only competed unattached- at about 3 meets.
In HS Andy had a PR of about 4.70.

One of the Purdue guys (Bodey) PR of 4.95 pulled a hamstring in the first indoor meet this year-- running the 60m hurdles. He hasn't competed since-- I guess he will be ready for outdoor.

While I agree that hurdling is translatable to vaulting, there is some downside(especially for the father/coach). My son ran the 300IM and vaulted and we had some problems vaulting after running the 300 because the stride length he needed to run the hurdles and the polevault were different. After he...
