Re: GRV: Lavillenie - From Stall Swing to World Record
This post continues to establish the mechanical factors that will be used to underpin the comparative descriptive qualitative analysis of the Segei Bubka Technique versus that of Renaud Lavillenie that will eventually follow. Vaulter weight force (-mg) induces varying magnitudes of torques about the...

Re: D'Encausse on ideal technique
But it makes no mechanical sense to use a rigid pole style take off using bending poles. If you want to fully exploit the benefits of bending poles the take off action must be modified to do so ( as well as many other elements of technique ). David do you actually believe your own statement here? C...

Re: D'Encausse on ideal technique
Certainly it is true that all vaulting styles are variations on the same theme. However individual variations in execution create different mechanical characteristics which then affect the outcome of the vault. Altius claims that Markov and Tarasov are P/b vaulters. Both vaulters take off out and t...

Re: D'Encausse on ideal technique
"There is no model. Each vaulter has an individual model based on their unique strengths and weaknesses. No athlete is the same, so you have to understand that what is good for one athlete may not be good for another. There are excellent things about the Petrov model but it isn't the only way ...

Re: D'Encausse on ideal technique
Many like myself are working with many athletes and have neither the time nor resources to completely individualize our coaching to the unique abilities of each athlete. There may not be one ideal model at the world class level, but few here are at that end of the sport. Most are in the beginner or...

Re: GRV: Lavillenie - From Stall Swing to World Record
A preliminary examination of the pole support phases from first to second take-off has to be made to keep this discussion based on universally understood mechanical and biomechanical definitions and concepts. These concepts can then be properly applied to pole vaulting in general as well as to an an...

Re: GRV: Lavillenie - From Stall Swing to World Record
Tim your comments on conservation of angular momentum are substantially correct with regard to the ice-skater example as you describe it! Yes ,you have made a an important omission with respect to its analogous application to pole vaulting. The examples of the ice skater and the hammer thrower have ...

Re: A minimalist approach to developing pole vaulters
Congratulations on this young athletes progress. The commentary is clear and sends the message to those who want to hear, see and most importantly act and then repeat until the basic movement patterns of the vault are learned. The video also helps young athletes to see someone who has been given cle...

Re: GRV: Lavillenie - From Stall Swing to World Record
Jean Galfione and Kory Tarpenning Paris 1996 http://youtu.be/Q3D_vujPqRI The video is not without some irony with respect to recent debate on style and technical necessity. French vaulter using an effective lead leg action at take-off and USA vaulter little to no effective lead leg action. Both vaul...

Re: Swing Efficiency Comparison: Bubka, Tradenkov, Lavillenie
Just a few resources for readers to view with respect to pole vault swing and a rather provocative interview snipet to which Wan refers. It is obvious PVdaddy has issues to deal with that are beyond the capacity of some of this forum contributors to help him with! A variety of swing techniques Publi...

Re: Swing Efficiency Comparison: Bubka, Tradenkov, Lavillenie
Clearly I must be living on a planet where "pigs can actually fly of their own accord" were I to believe PVdaddy's latest junk science attempt. I find it really sad that this correspondent does not have the wit to read what he has written and to realize that it is just trivial tripe! Just ...

Re: Swing Efficiency Comparison: Bubka, Tradenkov, Lavillenie
Oh for heaven's sake! Despite some clear definitions having being put into this "crazy circus" some readers are being hoodwinked by PVdaddy's confusions and his arcane physics (of the sort that claims it can turn lead into gold)! Centripetal force can only exist so long as the pole vaulter...
