I was having a similar problem and I read somewhere (I will post the source if I can find it again) that the drifting to the right is the result of something that happened before. One source of the problem you describe has to do with the path of your hands as you plant the pole. If you have a "round...

You still can't compare flex numbers between lengths because of the way they flex the poles. Can you help me understand this please? For sake of discussion, if you grip near maximum on a pole that would be near where it is tested. And if you applied the same amount of force, the pole would bend a s...

How many times are we going to go over this topic on this board. We have picked it apart for pages and pages of opinions and assumptions. Can't we find something new to talk about. Is it OK for some of us who haven't been on the board since its inception to discuss the pros and cons of different ju...

All of the above advice is good for trying to keep yourself dry and warm and your poles dry. But don't forget to use common sense. If you can't keep your grip dry or if the runway is at all slippery, don't put yourself at risk by jumping. It is far better to miss a meet or two by choice then to miss...

Wow, I can't imagine dealing with not having the right poles. The other problem, having to wait so long, is a serious and difficult problem. I spoke with Mark Murdock, a pole vaulter and the meet director about that. The only thing we could come up with was to have smaller groups. But that means mor...

Did you jump at the Masters Indoor Nationals?
If you competed at the Masters Indoor Nationals in Boise (really Nampa) Idaho, how about sharing your thoughts with everyone. Did you like the facilities? How about the great staff that ran the vault? Would you like to compete at that facility again? During the athletes meeting, they indicated the m...

I had the pleasure of participating and watching many of these vaulters do their thing. It is quite a tribute to all of them that they are doing such a difficult sport and having such a good time doing it. The camaradarie that I have experienced has been wonderful. When we are out there, we are all ...
