Re: The location of the take off point in fiberglass pole vaulti

Right on DJ. My high school coach 74-76 and my college coaches all taught a penultimate jump up and in takeoff. So did olsons coach at Abilene as well as many others. So the point that running off the ground was all that was taught is somewhat ambiguous to say the least

Re: Another "is he/she suitable"

Seek out a USATF club. They will typicaly be your best bet on getting "off the ground" no pun intended. I have a 10 year old the comes around now and then to vault and she is having fun (safely) and is learning. But ditto on the other comments!

Re: Short Pole Vaulters?

Good speed and strenght can make up for some of your "limitations" however if you want to do it and love it, go for it. There have been some great vaulters wo have been "short". Two years ago there was a gal in Florida who was about your size and she jumped 12'9" in high sch...

Re: Serious Pole Vault Injuries 2003-Present

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjXlSs95hWc I would call this a serious injury. It is, but we're really looking more at life-threatening accidents in this thread. There are a disturbing number of relatively elite male vaulters who have damaged their scrotum/testicles from hitting the pole on the way...

Re: Not too late to start pole vaulting again!

Spend your time in the early months of your comeback regaining strength, endurance, flexibility (really important) and some speed work and drills. I am now about 1.5 years into my comeback (I am 54) and I had alot of nagging injuries early on from a simple lack of conditioning. I cant emphasize enou...

Re: Essx vs Spirit

Well I agree, just thought there might be a brand that might help more(age wise) than another brand. Have never jumped on spirits or Essex but have/ do jump on all others. Thanks

Re: Essx vs Spirit

Well KC I agree but at 54 there is only so much UP at takeoff LOL! Trying different poles to find what works best for me at my age. currently jumping on Altius and Gill products. Might try an ESSEX if I can rent it first. thanks Becca and KC for the input. any additional info or insight would be gla...

Re: Essx vs Spirit

So in your opinion what pole would be best if you do tend to sink at takeoff ?
