Re: Pole tips for pole runs?
We do most of out pole runs at out local high school. Our track is not a rubber surface (Micro rocks) so we adapt by doing pole runs on the black top or the side walk in front of the school. When the weather turns bad we move indoors and use the same tennis balls (fuzzy side out) to do indoor pole r...

Re: Rope Vaulting - Yay or Nay?
A very sad situation - My heart goes out to the family. As a volunteer coach at our local high school I am always inspecting the areas around the pole vault (ours and the schools that we are visiting). At our sectional meet this year I had our coach summon the "guy with the gun" to show hi...

Re: NFHS 2010 Rule Changes Announced
Another change affecting pole vault competitors is a modification to Rule 7-5-29g regarding fouls by the competitor. It is no longer a foul when a team member clears the cross bar in the pole vault when the uprights are positioned incorrectly by the officials I would like this rule explained - I'm ...

Re: State Meet
Becca, I was working the pits at that meet in Jefferson City - Sorry but I saw no one out of line in my area. The athletes tend to sit along the stadium wall in the shade near the coaches box. Possibly some one could have said something but not in the area where I was working. The pole vault at this...

Re: Former Pole Vaulter Caught in Dallas Cowboy Stadium Collapse
I was wondering how similar if construction the new indoor facility at Texas A and M is to the building that blew down at the cowboys training camp ??

Re: Pole Break... why?
My guess is that if you lay that broken piece it will either line up with the sharp edge on the front of the plant box or if your pole vault mats are on a wooden platform or shipping skids if guess that a vaulter "missed" the plant box and shoved the pole under the skids and damaged it tha...

Re: Pole Vault Competitions Moved Indoors?
The men got to pole vault outdoors - the ladies started to warm up and the wind changed 180 degrees so the got the 2nd pit arranged and ready to go. BUT before the womens vault could get started they had a tornado sighted above Fayetteville and they made everyone go inside the basketball arena to aw...

Re: How often do you walk away happy?
As a volunteer coach of Middle School and High School vaulters - I walk away happy every time one of my vaulters makes a minescule improvement. I walk away happy when I see my newest vaulter go running all the way to the parking lot to tell their parents that they just cleared 5' 6" for the fi...

Re: How is bar hight measured?
Bring the standards to what is marked as "zero" on the slides. Put a crossbar at the LOWEST peg on the standards. Take a carpenters plumb bob (cost about $6.00) and throw it over the bar - from the mats TOWARD the runnway. The plumb bob should be in a direct line with the top of the back o...

Re: DI Men - Colwick 5.60, Olhovsky, Scott 5.45
The most awsome feat was that Colwick ONLY left the ground THREE times (Total number of trips down the runnway) and had the pole vault event WON !! This young man did an awsome job. A Kansas coach and I were sitting in the stands and were contemplating as to a year from now, how many vaulters will b...
