Peter McGinnis was my coach at Cortland and his velocities studies are dangerously accurate. I use them constantly and have a vaulter who is running consistent 9.3m/s on an 18 step approaches, and only has a pr of 5.55. This data tells us that he has serious efficiency problems in his vault, particu...

I've never used Nordics, but I hear that the 5 meter poles are wrapped on HUGE mandrils and heavy as hell. Don't know about the smaller sizes though.

Actually, Paul Richards will make and size Altius you want. The biggest one I've used is a 15'9 170, but I've seen 16' 200's.

Here are a few left off of the list: Dave Johnston - coached Mike Tully (Silver medalist in 84) and Earl Bell (bronze medalist in 84) Doug Sparks - coached 98 NCAA champ Borya Celentano and 2000 NAIA champ Lesa Kubishta. Anthony Curran - coached 18'er Scott Slover, 14'er Tracey O'Hara, and several o...

Actually, Beto Maximo, costumes are optional for everyone but you Tech boys: y'all have to wear pink skirts with ruffles!

It's not a Halloween Vault, just an excuse to party and do front flips over a bonfire!

Why was Southwest Texas State the "vault capital of Texas?" With all due respect to Don Hood Jr., who is a good friend of mine, and who knows his fathers program very well, it was that good because of his recruiting, not his coaching. Don is an average pole vault coach, but he has one of the sharpes...

The Texas Tech boys have emerged on the bulletin board!!! What's up Bobby and Jared? How's life in Lubbock? Well I'll take this opportunity to talk a little smack on behalf of my Southwaste Texas State boys: Bobby - look out cuz Blackjack "Big Mondingas" Fairbanks is going 5.80 this year. Buster - S...

Are some poles more "high-performance" than others? Absolutely - you can't say that a Skypole is equivalent to a Pacer Carbon. They're made with different materials, wrapped differently, have different sailpiece positions, etc. BUT, is one pole right for everybody? Hell no! It's all about timing up ...

Like Becca, I've had several coaches, and they've all been pretty cool: Joe Iatauro was my high school coach at Tri-Valley in upstate New York, and never vaulted himself, but researched the event immensely and was extremely supportive of going to clinics, camps, and lots of extra meets. Clay Gorton ...
