Re: what type of pole should a little but fast jumper use?
If you want to be jumping 17' then go with the 15' 170lb first. I agree with previous posters... power before length. when you get on the pole that is 30+lbs over your weight, then bump the length. And Kirk, good addition on the "broke in" comment. Poles definitely do not get "broken ...

Re: 2010 NFHS Rules You Should Know for Pole Vault
Doesn't the rule allow for a run through after 3 passed heights or 30 mins since the last jump?
I agree with Dan, call the field judge.

Re: rockup
At a minimum I would move you to the 12'4" 140 in practice, holding 11ft (since that is where you are holding now...probably lower). As a coach, I couldn't tell an official that you were jumping legally. Your coach is lying to the officials and putting you in danger. If I was officiating that m...

Re: rockup
What pole did you jump on yesterday? What are your standards set at? Yes, staying close to the pole will result in a better top end of the vault and a higher jump, but if your bottom end of the vault isn't good, then staying close to the pole will be much harder to accomplish. Essentially you need t...

Re: rockup
Yup, there were at least 2 references to a stiffer pole on here, but I don't think the safety aspect of it was emphasized.
Safety first, then everything else!

Re: rockup
Bingo! Let your coach know he's welcome to come on this forum and ask around about the best pole to use if he says no. If he won't allow you to change poles, I'm not sure I'd jump for the guy, as much as that stinks to say. He's putting you in danger of injury or worse. If I was officiating a meet t...

Re: rockup
Kirk's right on the money. But my concern is that if you implement what he's telling you on the current pole you are jumping on, you WILL absolutely snap it, especially knowing that you are bending the crap out of it. You are 20 lbs over the weight rating on your pole. You MUST get on a 150 or highe...

Re: 2010 NFHS Rules You Should Know for Pole Vault
- If is a foul if: - You or your pole knock off the bar What if the vaulter pushes the pole away, the pole is moving back to vertical and the pole catcher misses it, then the wind blows the pole into the bar? Miss or Make? This would probably be a make in my opinion. However, a pole catcher should ...

Re: Who needs a pole vault coach?
Altius' delivery can be harsh but he is on to something. I pulled one statement that I think is representative of your coaching attitude. If that means going from 7' to 7'6" fine. If it means 15' to 16' fantastic. How about "If that means going from 7' to 7'6" fantastic! If that means...
