Re: Parents of female athletes sue over cuts to school sports

I am in disbelief of how many people accept as appropriate that the Federal Government has any business dictating to Florida or any state anything concerning education or sports. We all want girls in sports and boys in sports. We all hate football because we are jealous that they are the heroes and ...

Re: Revolutionary bar clearance

Hey Max, way to get up there! You'll get no criticism from me, as I have been vaulting for over 40 years and haven't yet cleared 4.70. I'm pretty sure that your chief detractor, though extremely brilliant, hasn't cleared 4.70 either. By the way, my older daughter cleared her highest heights using si...

Re: Has Anyone seen this thing?

When I was in high school, we had volleyball net poles with bases made of truck tires filled with concrete. If you tipped one over, you could hold the top of the pole (about 8 feet), leap upward, and the base would fall flat, pulling the pole vertical. The video seemed similar to the volleyball net ...

Re: Pole Charts - Part 2

Kirk, Pretty good general information, but a couple of mistakes, I think. I don't think there is any NFHS rule prohibiting a grip in the pole's top 6 inches. Rather, vaulters aren't allowed to grip above the weight band (which is placed at the top of many poles). The span for weighting a pole is mor...

Re: Rule Change Proposal - Opinion

Here's my opinion: The purpose for competition is to determine who is best. That is the beauty of track and field as opposed to a sport with subjective scoring or ring around the rosie where everybody gets a ribbon for participation. That said, when the performance is tied, I see no need to break th...

Definitely push the pole upwards. Do it with your top hand.

Re: Walker, Miles, and Hartwig in Aachen, Germany

OK, here goes. I just got a letter from an old German friend today, and it put me in the mood to translate this. World Champion Brad Walker jumps in Aachen For the 4th Cathedral Vault on September 24, 2009 on the Aachen Katschhof , USA top vaulter Brad Walker and Derek Miles will be there. Brad Walk...

Walker, Miles, and Hartwig in Aachen, Germany

I came upon this German link about the September 24 Cathedral Vault in a courtyard in Aachen. It is to be Jeff Hartwig's farewell performance. http://www.leichtathletik.de/index.php?NavID=1&SiteID=28&NewsID=19308 18.09.2008 | Aktuell | pm/ah Weltmeister Brad Walker springt in Aachen Beim 4. ...

Re: Dropping the lead knee - time for a retrospective?

Excellent post, Decanuk! Several years ago I downloaded an extensive article by Dr. Spencer Chang who, if I remember right, was a proponent of dropping the lead knee. I am pretty certain the I got the link from somewhere on this board. However, since Powerplant has pronounced the action "BAD&qu...
