Re: Vaulting in the COLD?

Why thank you. And yeah, it's kind of a pick-your-poison type choice: minimal constriction due to copious amounts of clothing versus maximal constriction due to freezing your nips off. It all depends on how uncomfortable you are versus how cold you would otherwise be. For the legs I'm not too bother...

Re: If you named a drink after Bubka...

That drink sounds too fruity to named Bubka. Replace the melon and mango with turpentine and diesel and you're getting somewhere...

Re: Vaulting in the COLD?

Become Canadian. That way 50 degrees will feel tropical. But seriously, as already suggested wear long, tight-fitting clothing. I have 6 pairs of long tights. On the super cold days, I wear two or even three of them along with extra socks, gloves (when you're not jumping), and a toque of course. I a...

Re: So what's the opinion: Speed Suits

Tall skinny guys beware speed suit sizing. What is tight enough for your scrawny legs is probably to short for the length of your torso thus resulting in uncomfortable squishing. Not that I would know or anything like that... :dazed:

Summit Sanctioning?

For funding purposes, my track club needs the sanctioning information regarding the summit. I was unable to find anything on the summit website, and the event isn't even listed on the USATF calendar. Does anyone know where or how I can get this information, including confirmation of sanctioning?

Re: Dropping the lead knee - time for a retrospective?

...unless all US coaches take up and apply the Petrov model they will find the very strange scenario of an Australian winning the Olympic title being repeated. Although next time it really could be a New Zealander or even a Canadian. Now perhaps that is stretching things a bit! I suspect this was m...

Re: bubka video

Wow. The awesomeness of the video is directly proportional to the crappyness of the audio.

It's nice to see some of the lower or less perfect clearances. Especially the ones where he didn't have a great jump and really has to fight to get over.

I didn't know he chucked his pole so much!

Re: Selection system

Maybe this relates, maybe it doesn't. In Canada, they use a points system to select their Olympic gymnasts. For a poor performance at last year's worlds, they were allowed only 2 girls. One girl (Kristina Vaculik), was very young and had just became a senior in 2007 was cheated out of a spot becaus...

Re: Dropping the lead knee - time for a retrospective?

Remember that the pole vault is an interaction between two swinging pendulums: 1) the pole swinging from a plant position to vertical (hopefully) about its tip in the box, and 2) the vaulter swinging from plant position to vertical (hopefully) about his or her hands (initially), then shoulders (afte...

Re: Age Controversy in Gymnastics?

The problem seems to exist only in women's (girl's, really) gymnastics. I guess it's because of the nature of the women's events as compared men's. which are more based on shoulder-centric movements (rings, P-bars, H-bar). Also, there seems to be less willingness to push the envelope with young male...
