Re: Lavillenie vs Bubka

The free takeoff is, to my mind, non-negotiable at this point. It's just flat out better than being under. But I'm far from certain a double leg tuck doesn't put enough energy into the vault to be a valid technique. Lavellenie seems to be bearing this out. I know Alan is not fond of the, "more ...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

PV2020 FOUND THE POST IN WHICH I INDICATED WHY I HAD CHANGED MY OPINION ABOUT WHAT THE LEFT ARM DOES OR DOESNT DO AFTER TAKE OFF. NOTE THAT I AM NOT SHOUTING -SIMPLY TRYING TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN WHAT I AM STATING NOW AND WHAT I POSTED ON PVP THREE YEARS AGO! SORRY ABOUT THE LENGTH OF THIS POST -I ...

Re: Minimalism

The most basic requirement would be enough understanding to keep athletes safe. I would have no ethical issue with anyone's ideas about the vault if what they were teaching was putting athletes in the center of the pit. The problem is that most erroneous ideas are also dangerous. To pose an extreme ...

Re: What does the bottom arm do????

Wow Tim 15' 9" on a Metal Pole is better than my Hero Cornelius Warmerdams World Reord of 15' 7"! Was he the guy who beat it? Sadly no. The jump was disallowed on a technicality concerning the standards. Wamerdam remained the world record holder but J.D. Marin had the highest clearance on...

Re: What does the bottom arm do????

That was cool Tim! Never got to see that before on a flexible pole. Reminded me of my favorite vaulter Cornelius Warmerdam and what he might look like on a flexible pole! No bottom hand yet the pole still bends! It is my understanding that one of Petrov's chief insights was that there is no essenti...

Re: What does the bottom arm do????

Here is one of my vaulters at OU doing a close hand drill. It is one of my favorite teaching tools if the athlete is advanced enough to do it. I thought it would provide some food for thought and commentary on this issue. I am not ready to say the bottom arm does nothing, but in terms of making the ...

Re: Pole Vault Coach at University of Oklahoma

Beyond awesome. Congratulations! I hope the situation is better for you than your predecessors. Thanks. I am hopeful that this will work out. I have always had a desire to return to OU. The program was very good to me when I was there, and I felt that I could not pass up the chance to return. They ...

Pole Vault Coach at University of Oklahoma

I am officially the OU vault coach again. I'm excited to be coaching at that level once more.
