Re: Lavillenie vs Bubka

So far you haven't asserted anything specific about Lavillenie's vault for comparison to the Petrov model except differences in takeoff angle. I think that horse has been beaten. What else are you offering that is distinctly different about what Lavillenie is doing that you think makes him successful?

Re: Lavillenie vs Bubka

If jumping more like Bubka would make Renaud jump higher, don't you think he would have tried it by now?

Oh so that's it huh? Why didn't I think of that? I'll just tell my athletes to jump like Bubka or Renaud - that should guarantee results.

Re: Lavillenie vs Bubka

I start with the premise that Lavillenie obviously does not base his technque on the Bubka/Petrov model You need to qualify this statement. Yes, his vault looks different, but you cannot assume that Lavillenie's technical approach is not based on the principles of the Petrov model. Please identify ...

Re: I found a Breakthrough

That's a interesting insight. Thanks for sharing!

Why/how do you think your run mechanics changed when you were blindfolded? Do you think that the blindfold made you more aware of your footstrike or balance, or did it just sort of happen?

Re: Invitational performance

It is physically impossible for your hips to swing to the top of the pole if you drive your hands down when you swing. As I said to you several months ago, you must stop rowing your hands down if you want to improve. Think about keeping your arms up while you swing. Practice getting your hands highe...

Re: Ruling?

1. There is no rule that a vaulter cannot land on their feet. 2. An official shouldn't be coaching athletes unless the vaulter is doing something unsafe. "Jump" is not really a cue that is going to improve an unsafe vault if the vaulter is getting ripped off the ground. The vaulter more li...

Re: beginner feedback

The first priority is to learn not to pull. Both hands must be over your head at takeoff and stay over your head for your body to be able to swing. Your tendancy is to pull down hard with your left arm. Don't worry too much about your overstriding at this point. It's not that bad, and you haven't de...

And don't throw your head back. You should always be able to see your vault.

Re: Always in step

Sorry to jump in - I know I'm creating a "too many chefs" situation, and Altius and Kirk are both right, but your step will always be under if the pole tip falls below eye level prior to initiating your plant. Your pole goes horizontal several steps before your takeoff, which forces you to...

Re: Advice on my invert

Your swing is stopping because you are driving your arms down. Keep your arms over your head and focus on swinging without breaking the pressure on the pole with your left arm.

Re: 7 Step Approach

Bryan, Your pole tip is way too low at the beginning of your run, and your pole carry is static. Your pole tip is below your waist when you intiate your plant. This is creating tension throughout the approach, and the static position of the pole makes it impossible for the pole to initiate rotation ...
