Re: pushing back out during the swing?

Many believe there also exist a second opportunity for the vaulter to perform another tapping action at the top of the swing as the gymnast does at dismount and is the subject of my future research. not quite... specifically, The tap should take place 180 degrees opposite the release... IMHO REPENT...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

the 640 pull concept to accelerate the rotational swing speed and momentum has merit...

IMHO...

simplify...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

Maybe Coach Vinson answered that question - I"ll have to go back and look at his post. I may have time to do that tomorrow. Until Brian or some OTHER "tap" pundit can convince me otherwise (by clarifying what he meant), the rest of this discussion is pointless. Kirk basic tap fundame...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

the "tap" phase IMHO is synonymous with the swing as you point out... (Bryde) However, In my experience, some vaulters have a strong swing, but lack a tap impetus originating through the shoulder... Similarly, there are coaches that emphasize solid swing mechanics but miss the shoulder dyn...

Re: straight pole jump

practice steps 1,2 and 3 without the invert at first... if all goes well, you should develop greater pole speed in the takeoff and tap phases which will require you to raise your grip... then add the swing to inversion/popup - and then work in the turn/bar clearance... once you are on a bending pole...

Re: straight pole jump

1)stronger bottom arm at take off - not a block and not straight either... the purpose is to initiate pole speed/movement to vertical... at takeoff from 3Ls, your step should be slightly out IMHO and definitely not under... 2)If the hands are strong and forward at takeoff... then they will be pushed...

Re: Finishing the top end

If and when you get feet to hands, straighten out, extend punching hips up and shoulder in direction of landing pad staying very tight to the pole... IMHO ^^this specifically... and again I would emphasize shins/knees to the hands with a purposeful and powerful swing... 3 left popups/supermans - em...

Re: Finishing the top end

  ...4 step making sure he can stay long in the swing and inverting getting his right thigh to his right hand. IMHO I think it's important/ crucial to do this with an out step. IMHO I think he should start with a low grip landing deep in the pad with perfect execution then raise the grip a...
