Re: New to Vaulting

Idk much about the area but I'm sure there is a USA track and field team in Cleveland that probably has some offseason jumping. Hope it helps!

Re: Goals?

I'll try my best with the videos! I have a Christmas camp coming up so it'll give me an idea of how I'm doing...I'll talk to my coach and see if he can record some stuff.

Re: Goals?

I'm not making excuses. I asked how to keep my legs in shape over swimming cause it's a problem I have every year. I get that people have different opinions about cross but I'm more focused right now on what I can still control for next season. I don't want to come across as being rude though so jus...

Re: Goals?

I swim too, so I don't think getting in shape and doing intervals and stuff is my big problem. I think it's harder to keep my legs strong, especially my calfs, during swim season. I've been doing the workout plans up to now, but the season starts tomorrow so I don't know how I'm going to do the work...

Re: Goals?

I think Altus and rainbowgirl explained what I was thinking about when I quit cross pretty well, but I see the other sides of it too... My mom didn't let me quit until she was sure I had a pland and I wasn't just giving up on running cause I wasn't good

Re: Goals?

I think rainbowgirl hit it on the head. I like the idea of thinking about some smaller goals because I could see that helping. I also said that whole cross thing badly I quit more because I just didn't feel like it was what I should be doing, not just because I wasn't that good.

Re: Goals?

I got a workout plan from my club coach. He and my coach at a camp I went to also suggested I quit cross if I'm serious about vaulting. I know people have mixed opinions whether cross hurts your sprinting, but I wasn't that good anyway. I figured I didn't have much to lose, but potentially a lot to ...

Goals?

My pr last year as a freshman was 11 feet, and I could occasionally clear the bungee at 12. I was only holding at 11, but I've been working on my speed a lot and quit cross country. I was only going 9 at the end of the school year and I got 11 at camp this summer. Obviously I wasn't expecting to be ...

Re: Off Season Training

I'm a swimmer and vaulter kinda in your position. We're gonna try doing a lot of sprint work with and without poles and work on approaches with a sliding box with carpet on the outside. It's not real jumping but it'll be better than nothing. We're still experimenting though too. Hope it helps!

Re: Speed Training

I quit cross country and I've got a work out plan for the fall. I do two a days on the swim team so endurance shouldn't be a problem during the season. Thanks for the help!
