Re: interpretation of rule change

Got the official interp from our state assoc. (Illinois) It can all be boiled down into one sentence.

The pole and the vaulter must at some point move in opposite directions.

Re: Change jump order near end of competition?

IMO, the advantage should go to the competitor that has performed best in the current meet , not the one who achieved a better result in some prior meet. May I approach this from an officials perspective? You hit the nail on the head with your bold type. The problem is that, in a one day competitio...

Re: USATF releases criteria for meets to count for qualifying

USATF certified or recognized officials must officiate the meet/event. A strict reading of this would mean that athletes could not qualify abroad? That's not the intent, but I will ask if Duffy is concerned about smaller international meets like street vaults and such. I think the word "recogn...

Re: New Pole Vault Survey!

...Also, as a side note, if anyone has any news on pole vault clubs or resources for a jumper without a coach around the south bend/mishawaka area, I'd really appreciate it!... Try Danny Wilkerson. He is the coach at Bethel College in Misawaka. Danny personally owns and operates a private athletic ...

Most of our high schoolers and some of our college kids can't even do this. :o

Re: When is it too young to start PV?

I know we've had a couple start as young as 6 years old. Whether that's too young or not is open for debate but it sure does this old heart good to see the youngsters out there having fun. And that is the key when getting the young kids involved. ALWAYS KEEP IT FUN!

I want to apologize to everyone. This whole pole sticker thing started in New Jersey, and I cannot believe that now this is becoming an important issue nationally. Don't feel bad. We have all had to deal with that special kind of idiot who has important friends at the state level and the intelligen...

Re: How/Why did you start pole vaulting?

Basically, like any other teenage boy, being told I couldn't do it just made me want it more. My grade school would not allow Vaulting. When I got to high school it was the first thing I wanted to do. Of course it took a year to convince my coach it wouldn't interfere with the high jump.
