Re: Physics Based Critique of the Petrov Method

To be honest take off approach may be the only place I can find any co-incidence between the two world record holders. My point exactly! That is why Petrov and his supporters (including me) talk much more about the minutiae of the approach/takeoff than anything else. Lavillenie has improved his app...

Re: Physics Based Critique of the Petrov Method

I have greatly enjoyed this thread. Thanks for rejuvinating my desire to participate in this website! I am very impressed with the physics-based analysis by PVstudent, which nicely explains the Petrov method, in the way I understand it as a vaulter/coach/scientist. I also have enjoyed willrieffer's ...

It never ceases to amaze me the level of talent and achievement that Morry is producing year-after-year. A great example for every coach to strive for.
Congratulations!

Re: Lane CC (OR) one of the best in the NW

Dan West runs a great vault program at Lane CC, better than most universities. I would strongly encourage any talented HS vaulters looking for a college program that will help them reach their potential, give Lane a look. Be ready to be disciplined, and work hard with a deep group of vaulters and an...

Re: OK, Let's open the "pole drop" can of worms

Three lefts, stiff pole and bending pole vaulting with the pole starting at about 45 degrees. Your vaulters will have to learn how to drop (and control) the tip of the pole while accelerating into the takeoff. No strange weirdness from starting off the left foot, just the essence of vaulting which w...

Re: What is your correct takeoff point?

PV Student, I am enjoying your extremely detailed posts. In my case, you are preaching to the choir, but it is still nice to see all the "empirical evidence" laid out for everyone. Keep up the good work! As you pointed out, the takeoff point is largely dependent on the action of the vaulte...

Re: Fourteen Year Gap in Modern PV Technique in the 1970s?

I agree with Eric that the pole drop is an often overlooked, important aspect of vaulting that encourages, even FORCES, an acceleration into the takeoff. He has explained the idea and the drills used to emphasize it quite well, in my opinion. I also agree with PVstudent and Altius that what ACTUALLY...

Re: Finalised itinerary for Altius clinics

My fellow coach and I drove up to Oregon City yesterday, to meet Alan Launder in person, after several years of correspondence via PVP and email. My friend and I have been around a lot of good coaches in our lives, having played almost every sport, and having coached several sports from the youth le...
