Tired of the &^%$it, I quit
Tired of the _______it. I am frstrated with not having a high bar, or chin up bar. I am tired of not being able to construct a chin up bar in the pole vault area. I am tired of not being able to use the pits with the athletes on a weekend. I am tired with dealing with problems when taking the athlet...

Re: Bending a Skypole
Not to brag, but when I weighed 132, I used a 165 pound, 15'6" skypole, and I broke a 14'6" 145. You do not have good speed or a good plant. You are hanging on the pole. this is dangerous. You must "blow" thru the pole, not hang on it. You are "old man" vaulting. In oth...

Re: is track and field dying?
You are not kidding! when I was young, there was in international track meet on tv almost every week, although it might have been on at midnight. Our country is turning into a big bunch of wusses. We don't have physical education in schools. Our schools are run by ( as are many other things) lawyers...

Re: Maximum Top Hand Holds and High School Vaulters
The manufacturer tests the rating of the pole at different places than other manufacturers. That is why the tape is at a different place. The rating of the pole was not tested higher on the pole. When held at that higher position the rating is unknown. The high school rules are for safety.

what to do with the old altius poles
Now that we need the color markings on the poles for high school, can we adopt altius poles that have the scrathed in marks? Or do we have to throw them away?

Re: name this vaulter?
I think you just need more of a monster pole. It looks like you are using a "baby" pole to vault with.

Re: how to develope a rythmic run?
Ability and desire. If an athlete has this he/she will succeed. If not, hang it up. Vaulting takes time, but you need the first two things. I think many coaches, ( me included) do not want to hurt a vaulters feelings, so we think if they cannot succeed it is "our" fault. It is only our fau...

Re: How to avoid injuries from landing in the box?
Follow the safety rules set up for high school vaulters. Only use a pole your weight or over. The only way to break a pole if it is over your weight is to blow thru it. If you do this you land on the pits on your back. If you use a pole under your weight you can break it by hanging on it and you wil...

Re: Putting Hooker's performances into perspective
Perhaps thr rules have changed, but like the Steelers of the 70's, Bubka was a "man's man". He showed no fear, and most of his world record clearnaces would have cleared 21 feet. His recored might be broken some day, but no one can take away the glory days under which Bubka vaulted, and th...

Re: Russian Style Pole Vaulting..
I was taught this technique by Paul Richards at Rutgers 30 years ago. It is simple. It is physics. You want your upper hand as high as possible at take off. This is not Russian technique, it is CORRECT technique. What Bubka had that others have not is lack of fear and an attitude that the body can d...

Re: Dropping the lead knee - time for a retrospective?
i USED TO never lead with my knee and my coach tried to change me. I continued to break records. However, when I did finally lead with my knee I was able to move my hand hold up almost 2 feet. I find that just as in pro football, statistics are interesting to look at, but what matters is who wins. B...
