Re: Incidents Involving Winged Box Collars

This is not an incident more than a reiteration of the debate that it may provide a false since of security. Today at practice I had a male vaulter (15'10 PR) say "I know your not going to want to hear this, but I actually like the new box collar". When I asked him why he said "Becaus...

Re: What could help young coaches?

I will try and get this going Alan. I am by no means an old coach, I would probably fall into that young coach category, but I think I have stolen a few good tricks over the past few years from some pretty good coaches. I am going to post a series of videos following the top male vaulter that I coac...

Re: Lavillenie vs Bubka

I always hear the Bubka 10.3 thing but never really seen the proof on it. From the actual statistics on paper I have seen he was a consistent 9.8-9.9 guy at take off that I am sure hit a few over 10.0. But there have been guys that fast. Huffman and Duplantis both had meets with multiple jumps of 10...

Re: New Box Collar Rule Interpretation (USTFCCCA)

The collar simply does not work well with most pole vault pits, does not stay in place, and I saw more people come up short at this meet than I have ever seen in all my years being around pole vaulting. The pit continued to slide back. Some pits (especially this one) cover the bend cavity. The offic...

Re: Pole Vault Combine

Speed wins. This is typically always true at the elite level. The fastest guy on the runway wins. However how fast are they really running? Every year we test the 30m dash and our top lady sprinters run around 4.15-4.20 seconds for a 30m dash (no blocks). These same ladies run around 7.40 for the 60...

Re: Ruling?

IN HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION 1)Is there any official ruling that a high school vaulter can NOT land on his/her feet first onto the pads or land with their feet first and then bounce back onto their backs? 2) Can an official tell a vaulter that he/she HAS to "jump" at take off? Example: If a...

Re: This is why the new box collar is more dangerous

Kirk, I understand what you are saying about how the collar makes it just as deep after being slid back, however now it is slanted right there, and more importantly my drawing is not to scale, so I do not know if the collar actually goes that deep into the pit. The biggest psychological problem is p...

This is why the new box collar is more dangerous

Re: opinions on box collars so far?

Gill said they would not be sending them out until the end of November. So pretty much no one has theirs yet. I emailed the NCAA to see if they could delay the "required date" just to simply allow people to have time to practice with it before their first meet. I have not received a respon...
