Re: What should I be doing for more explosiveness?

Always focus on form first. Everything else I've suggested has just helped me progress into how I do today. I'm 5'7.5" tall and weigh around 150 ish and I have a max bench of 205 lbs, repped 3 times, and I can Max squat over 300 (haven't max squatted in a while but I rep out 280). I have no ide...

Re: What should I be doing for more explosiveness?

Bad news - Working out, even really really hard, is not going to do that much for you within a year for your vault. EVEN IF you were hitting the take-off at 11 meters per second (which nobody does), you would probably not be able to hit over 14' or so. That's because the main problem is not speed, ...

Re: What should I be doing for more explosiveness?

I'm not a expert on creating workouts to increase speed and form but I'll tell you what helped me a lot. First of all, Lift. Lifting is vital in getting stronger, faster, and more explosive. concentrate on lifts that relate to pole vault and also lifts that focus on explosiveness and multiple muscle...

Re: Do longer poles have better "flexibility"?

Thank You Kirk! That actually makes a lot of sense! I can agree with what you've said about the way the poles are wrapped. They aren't as "foolish" as high schoolers in vaulting on the wrong pole. Kirk Should we be concerned with this lack of knowledge high schoolers posses about choosing ...

Re: Do longer poles have better "flexibility"?

Okay, I'll put it in a different way, so looking at it, I see that they're more pole breaks with the shorter poles than the longer poles. I say this about the shorter pole because it seems to require not nearly as much bend as a longer pole. This is what I infer from observing high schoolers and Ren...

Do longer poles have better "flexibility"?

Going through PVP I found a post that showed Renaud vaulting and I noticed something that made me think of a question that I want more opinions on. Considering Pole vaulting poles are made of a fiberglass blend, they are not invincible to breaking as some of us may have found out the hard way. What ...

Re: Vault/swing critique

To revise what I said earlier I want to point out what Kirk said ... you just need to coast - same as Bubka... Instead of thinking in the way you have to keep moving the feet back and get them behind the pole, swing and just fight the urge to drop the feet, so when you turn the feet are still going ...

Re: Vault/swing critique

First of all, don't be worried about moving up poles, when the time comes, your coach on the ground will be able to let you know. I want to have better form before I move up This is good to hear, to many people focus on moving up pole before fixing form, you'll be able to go higher with proper form ...

Re: Properly Released Pole

This something that should be talked with a licensed official about. You'll get some varying answers here. You should find an official at the beginning of a meet and get input about it then. 8. When it is clear that the bar has been displaced by a force not associated with the competitor (e.g., a gu...
