Re: Striding Out at Takeoff

You see now how every vault part is related to every upstream vault part? As my high school coach would say, "the vault is sequential, that's why it goes approach, plant, takeoff". I have always maintained the mentality that approach is the most important aspect of the vault (it comes fir...

Re: Striding Out at Takeoff

I understand what both grandevaulter and coachstark are coming from. I have always been taught to count during my approach and I will continue to always count. Yes, it may get in the way of the mentality of the jump, however there are many more important parts of my jump that take higher priority in...

Re: Striding Out at Takeoff

one simple question that hasn't been asked is, do you count your steps during your approach run? I do count down on my lefts as I approach the box and am usually pretty consistent about that. However, obviously I need to work on that so that it doesn't happen any more in a meet! I coach the three C...

Re: New Pole Technique

You are taking off very far under!! The pole starts to bend almost BEFORE your last foot hits the ground!! When you get ripped off the ground like that, it does not allow you room to jump. Even though you are 6' 5", you can always be taller. As you get more comfortable on the pole, move your st...

Re: Looking for Advice on my vault

You seem to have a manageable takeoff which was hard to analyze in a couple of the videos because you could not see your runway. Also your swing needs some work as you have a bent trail leg like many beginning vaulters, but that will come with drills and hitting a better takeoff and not going to you...

Re: What a season

You have great plant position which is product of your good runway. You must have had a very good first coach! However, even though you are a tall guy and have great position, your hips still get sucked in which inhibits your swing. This tells me that you are jumping more horizontally than verticall...

Re: Striding Out at Takeoff

Thank you for your advice! Other ways to improve your stride cadence is to perform 20/20s, straight leg claws, and ostrich steps I used to do a lot of these drills in high school and have gotten away from them in college. I am definitely going to start doing them again on my own sometime outside of ...

Re: Striding Out at Takeoff

I apologize if I came off snooty in my first post! :D I was hesitant to post video because what I have is not very good. Hopefully this helps. https://www.dropbox.com/sc/anw7za64ldwuplq/AAABc29NXloeUj_9E_qOMTdNa These videos are not from the same day but from about a week apart. I am running from 5 ...

Re: Striding Out at Takeoff

The numbers of my jumps are irrelevant to my question. The numbers vary from different runways to different poles, but are all caused by the same thing. I know that my extended strides are what is causing my jump to stall. I was simply looking for drills or advice on how to fix it. I found a similar...

Striding Out at Takeoff

I have been struggling for almost two years with my last step at takeoff. As I approach the box on my last two steps, my strides increase in length which lowers my center of gravity at plant position and inhibits my jump at takeoff. This causes me to stall out of the pole and have no chance of takin...

Is he really 5' 10"? I thought he was closer to his father's height around 5' 7". And 40 lbs over his weight is pretty darn impressive! Thank you!

Re: Trouble Getting Hip Up In Inversion

These are all great tips to improve your swing. You are in good plant position however another thing you should try is move your step back at least a foot! You are in a good position at the plant, but the pole is already really bent before you even leave the ground. When you do this, the pole rips y...
