It was so much fun to watch that guy who had been trash talking her not even able to finish the underwater stunt. What a dork. He had the audacity to question what sort of an athlete she was, and what event she could possibly compete in. And then she smoked him in everything. Vaulters rule! Way to g...

Looking for pits in or near Iowa.

Hey all, Iowa Central Community College has just started a track program. The vault was not in the works at the beginning, but due to the perserverence of the Head Coach, Dee Brown, it appears they will now carry the vault. However, they have no pits to practice with, and since Iowa has no High Scho...

12'6", but from five lefts. Good fun, lots and lots of fun. I do the push with one hand and reach the other up, which actually makes it hard to get hands right together, but, I'm actually a bit faster this way, but tend to wear out a bunch of tips from pushing the pole.

Aha, one of my favorite subjects. I don't know if your school will have the program, but I transferred to the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse to go on there study abroad program to La Trobe University in Bondura, (bad spelling) just on the outskirts of Melbourne. Six months, four of them in School,...

1988 ford escort hatchback "Pony." It's been to hell and back and just WON'T DIE! Amazing how much snow it goes through, and how many poles can be tied to the side of it. Maybe if I ever get out of college (again) I'll trade the old girl in.

A way to start and get the feel for this method is to do short drills with both hands on the pole. Then when you take the other hand off eventually it is second nature to bring it up to where you've practiced it. It is a more comfortable way to get off the ground for the first few times as well. And...

I wonder if Tye ever tried putting a bit of extra weight on the tip of the pole? That might get the tip to drop faster and farther into the box at top speed, and since that part of the pole would be on the ground the extra weight would not be a problem. Also, since the vaulter is not having to carry...

I play tennis ball golf. not quite the same but free. It is actually more like frisbee golf. Take a six or seven iron and a tennis ball and hit it around in a park from trash can to trash can, or pick the trunk of a tree for a hole or whatever. Works really good as a team thing, organize into teams ...

Thanks Rob, I've been seeing this for a while and it's so nice to have it in print from expert types. Everyday example type thing... I am six three and, embarrassingly, at thirty can just touch a basketball rim, usually. But, ten or fiteen minutes into a pick up game, (what warm ups should simulate)...

You know, the moving forward idea does have merit, like Rob said, it does help to prevent a roundhouse plant, which throws off much of the vault. At the same time, try not to let the hand go forward. A good cue for this is to bring the right (for a right handed vaulter) elbow forward while keeping t...

Hmmm... Interesting tidbit of information, (or propoganda) that I found on the USATF Web Site. Does this mean that we are all stressed and worried over nothing? Or does it mean that we should worry more, since USATF believes they have everything figured out? Are they going about it the wrong way? An...

Ok, someone with a video camera and some knowledge should put together a sample of what a meet could be like on T.V. and pitch it to someone, anyone. What would work? First, look at what is wrong with much of the television coverage... Yes, too much coverage of long races, or more to the point, too ...
