Re: help my form pleaseeeee

What I try to do is look at my bottom hand and watch it rise as I go through the first phases of my vaults (Plant, Inverted C, Leg Swing). Your hand should eventually go behind your head and out of sight andif you try to watch it, you will naturally rock back (your feet and body follow the direction...

Re: help my form pleaseeeee

Im not the greatest at the top end either but the first thing I noticed is that you throw your head back as soon as plant. You should keep your head in a neutral position for the majority of the vault, you have the idea though that you don't need to be looking down or at the bar. Next, your bottom a...

Re: help my form pleaseeeee

On this jump it looks like you took off under. Your plant over all is terrible, but the good new is that you have the muscle and BALLS to take this jump up and try and save your vault. That's a good mentality to have because some guys couldn't even take that off the runway, and as you get better, be...

Re: did i set my goal too high ?

It's not a bad thing to set lofty goals but in your case you may be shooting for too much. It sounds to me that you're pretty much straight sticking right now. So focus on learning technique. Plus once you get technique down bars come easy, maybe next year shoot for 12'6'' or 13'6'' with technique a...

Re: How high for college?

You have to make yourself marketable to get into college. It helps that you're academic. Strive for as many academic scholarships as possible. Assuming you keep your grades up, you will never lose scholarship money due to injury or poor performance if all of it is academic. And coaches love nerds. I...

Re: Collegiate Fairy Dust

It's nice to read about Carl's Legacy. I go down to Altius to practice and he gives everyone (from an 18 footer to a little girl just learning) his full attention. You cant find a better coach any where. A little callous at times, but that's just Carl.

Re: Another "is he/she suitable"

I recently went to an indoor complex where a guy was training a 7 year old and she was clearing 9 feet!!! talk about a humbling experience for a 19 year old college vaulter who was on the struggle bus this year trying to get over just 4.0 meters. This sport is all about experience and there is nothi...

Fixing a take off that is under

I am having a problem with my take off. In both practice and at meets I am always taking off for my plant at around 6" to a foot under my take off mark (Fortunately Im also a college fb player so I have the strength to muscle my way out of this position and save my vault but this is still killi...

Re: Preferred pole brand for new jumpers

Rockets are also good for beginners A good brand I pretty much live by is Altius Extreme Vaulting Poles out of Jacksonville TX. The top guys at Akron and SFA use their poles and they're also the che...
