Re: The Real Questions of the 6.40 Model

I think the ideas and information being thrown around in this thread are very useful and may lead somewhere. Certain variables may hold true, high speed take-off high grip etc. BUT I'm not sure how much relevance you can take from averages of freak data points. Every 6m pole vaulter is a freak in so...

Re: Older film of Daniel Ryland

But at the top level a golfers club is tailored to his individual swing characteristics in order to optimize the length he can achieve in his drive. This is significantly easier to do in golf than pole vault but essentially you are talking about altering the stiffness along a cylindrical shaft to ma...

Re: Filming pole vault for a video game

Its actually the mo-cap they did for the Beijing 2008 computer game. Not my best vaulting ever, this was in 2007 October time I think so we were deep in heavy training. The bar was set at about 4.40, but I wasn't allowed to go any higher than 4.80-5m because it would have been outside the capture wi...

Re: Another Colwick-like vaulter spotted: Is this something?

IF this was prooven by scientists, how was it done? Did they look at all the current vaulters, study their individual techniques, apply mathematical formulae and work out who was most efficient? This is most likely as science has a tendency in these kind of situations to be used to prove previously ...

Re: Video Metrics - Vid Analysis Data Points for PV Performances

Everyone can't afford dartfish, but a programme which works basically the same, and is FREE is ImageJ. It does only work on uncompressed video, but allows you to place digitised markers on you video and take angles and measurements in terms of pixels. Its not the quickest and easiest progremme in th...

Is it just coincidence or are the top vaulters techiques linked to the colour of their pole?

Firstly powerplant, can i say I really think you need to find a better way to put your points across. It may just be my interpretation, but i see your words as confrontational and not in the spirit of the board. Secondly can I say LOL, at your suggestion to make another video. Can I suggest an alter...

Re: Is Pushing with the Bottom Arm Good or Bad?

Robert Schmitt: Very cool, I think you've basically described what I'm trying to get at. Because you couldn't push with your bottom arm, even though it is a small amount, it did affect your jump. You couldn't transfer the energy as smoothly, which would definately have affected your jump. Kirk B: I ...

Re: Is Pushing with the Bottom Arm Good or Bad?

As soon as the pole tip hits the bottom of the box, not the back, the inertia of the pole causes it to keep moving and the pole to strainghten again and almost bend backwards, negating the point you just made. Watch the top guys with the best take-offs and you will see the pole almost bend backwards...
