Sticking to it

As soon as my coach helped me figure out how to get a faster recoil on the pole I have gotten a new problem. Out of about 7 vaults I got one where I cleared 12'6" by a foot, and the other times I have been hitting the practice bungee. It is because I'm turning a little too early. I was wondering if ...

Spikes

I was wondering how much those specialy-made-for-pole-vaulting spikes make a difference? I know that spikes help me a lot better than tennis shoes, but is it worth spending the extra cash to get some spikes that are said to help vaulters?

I live in Boise ID. I would be doing winter track at BSU but their coach quit this year. There is another team, but with 30+ kids (not to mention spendy) I don't think it would do much. Perhaps I could get a 2 month membership for one of the many 'health clubs' around.

I had this problem till that was all I focused on for about 3 weeks. Yes some of my other technique, but I'm not complaining. Went from 11' to 13' in the practice where I finally "got it".

One time I went up and hit the bar with my chest going upside down. going back down I managed to put it back up using my chest. It's definately an art ;) . Seriously, though. Just don't touch it and it wont be a problem.

get a woden box (something to step on) and jump up with the leg on the box, land on the other leg and spring up again. Doing this really increases your verticle, and your instintanious speed. Bounds, high knees, lunges. These are all things easily done in your house, and they also increase ankle str...

I was trying this on my pull up bar after this and I eventually fell off after attempting it many times. I can do a lot of different bar work, but either my bar doesn't allow this, or I've got a lot of falls in my future. :)

work out rig?

This year I will be unable to do any winter pole vaulting (no coach), and I take a while to get back into pole vaulting. I was wondering if anyone has ideas of something I could rig up that would simulate getting upside down? I have some rings and pull up bars in the backyard, but I really don't wan...

I do marching band... it is definately intense enough to be a sport, but I still wouldn't say it is. Other than that I train with the cross country team when my ankles work.

I personally go off of more of a rhythm than anything, counting just messes me up. It's good for when your learning the runway and rhythm though.
