Re: Video Review of Cameron Meyer

SFA Dad, your son goes to a university that over the past two years has had some of the top men, and woman in the university in the pole vault. I think their coach has the whole coaching thing down right now. Sometimes their can be too many chefs in the kitchen. I think this post is one of the best ...

Re: Coaching

Has your coach had a history of success coaching the pole vault? Are there athletes on your team that 'row' and jump higher than you? Regardless of what the answer is, do what your coach ask. My biggest thing I like to tell people about the pole vault is that there are a million different techniques...

American Record?

Hypothetically speaking of course, if Shawn Barber jumps 6.05 or higher, should it count as the American Record? He was born in the United States, and he is still American. I am assuming he competes for Canada under dual citizenship. When you think of American Record, you think of the highest any Am...

Re: Take off step

Enloe, I do not recommend this but I saw it work. A tennis shoe was placed on the line and nobody stretched. Better off just to imagine its there! The shoe, NO, something, YES. It also depends on the athlete and if they have the mental gusto to just turn over and jump without slowing down because o...

Re: Can you make your own standards?

Yes you can. But do not use PVC and concrete.... You can find enough aluminum square tubing for well under the cost of a standard if you can find someone that knows how to weld and is wiling to do the work for free. A lot of places will donate that small of material if they know it is for a local hi...

Should Shawn Barber's 5.87m Vault Count for any Records?

Athletics Canada posted that Shawn Barber broke the NCAA and Canadian record in the men's pole vault with a jump of 5.87m. However it is hard to see it being an NCAA record because Barber was not competing for the University of Akron during the time of the meet, he was unattached. Most NCAA D1 schoo...

Re: Expo Explosion VI in TX: Barber makes 5.87!

He was not competing for Akron when he cleared the record. If Track and Field news wants to find some 'College Age' record, that's great, but if they ratify this they are opening a can of worms. This is track and field, one of the only things anyone cares about is records (only slightly kidding). I ...

Re: Transferring Schools

If you are a male jumping 12'6 (as indicated by your profile on here). You should definitely look at DIII schools in the area. Going DI (and maybe the other divisions as well), you are going to need your schools compliance department to send an official release to any school you plan on talking to, ...

Not to do too much critiquing of a high school freshmen that is jumping over 16' already. But does he intentionally place the tip of the pole on the runway and slide it into the box?

Re: Rule 6-4. 3b

I see this as a rule with good intentions that will only be misinterpreted from how it was intended. They are obviously trying to find a way to better organize larger fields. The common way to do this at most non scored meets is 5 alive, but there is no rule requiring it. So this rule offers two opt...
