Date Traveled: August 2001
Airline: Delta
Experience: I was flying from Seattle to Tampa
with my poles. They were in a fairly small PVC pipe which was only
12'9" long. I took it to the ticket counter and the lady had
no problem checking them in, until a crusty old guy found out they
were pole vaulting poles and said Delta would not take them as checked
baggage and I had to go through air cargo. We took them to air cargo
and they all laughted because it was such a small tube. They did
take them and my poles arrived safely. Unfortunately, Delta no longer
allows commercial passengers to use air cargo.
